Job Summary:

We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations predominately focused on Infrastructure and Utilities. To support this growth, we have opened a position for a Project Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC.

The Project Engineer will have overall civil/structural responsibility for overhead (OH) & underground (UG) power distribution project delivery, while working closely with other technical leads and the overall Group Manager. Key activities include managing project teams, developing and implementing procedures to improve efficiency, liaising with project stakeholders and meeting project key performance indicators (safety, quality, schedule, cost and continuous improvement). The Project Engineer may be asked to support projects outside of distribution work from time to time.

The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team delivering electrical infrastructure projects. We are looking for people that take ownership, are career motivated, well organized and detail oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.

Our operation is under a Hybrid work model (3 days in office | 2 days from home).

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Civil or Structural Engineering Degree from a Canadian accredited college, university or equivalent
  • Registered P.Eng. Engineers and Geoscientist of BC (EGBC) or another Canadian Association.
  • A minimum of 5 years of combined experience in engineering design, or project management.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in civil design
  • Proficient using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MS Office is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills, including the ability work in a team environment
  • A valid Class 5 BC driver's license (or another province equivalent).

Considered an asset:

  • Project Engineering/Management experience on BC Hydro Distribution Projects.
  • Civil or structural design experience on BC Hydro, other utility companies and/or industrial/commercial projects
  • Experience implementing MMCD (Master Municipal Construction Documents) and/or BC Hydro standards engineering standards and regulatory requirements an asset.
  • Manage and leverage GIS resources to gather data for Civil projects

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the design team by assigning tasks, managing workflow, and overseeing project execution.
  • Support project setup and delivery by monitoring schedules, budgets, and milestones; manage change notices and assist with client invoicing.
  • Ensure the overall quality and consistency of project deliverables across civil and municipal infrastructure initiatives.
  • Prepare and review preliminary and detailed design drawings for public and private sector clients, including civil/structural components for distribution infrastructure in accordance with client and national standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers on functional and detailed designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D for utility and minor structure projects.
  • Contribute to the tendering process, including preparation of RFTs and non-standard civil/structural designs for BC Hydro distribution projects.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding design coordination, technical reviews, and construction-related issues.
  • Liaise with clients, internal teams, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Support the development and refinement of design standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Address and resolve issues related to client relationships, team dynamics, and project delivery performance.
  • Identify client needs and work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure efficient and successful project outcomes.
  • Participate in strategic planning for team resources and pursuit of new client opportunities.
  • Organize and attend project meetings to maintain alignment and progress.
  • Contribute to business development efforts to support company growth.
  • Assist with distribution projects in the United States as needed.
  • Help identify training and development needs for team members based on project performance.
  • Travel for business purposes as required.

This is a Permanent position based out of New Westminster, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $145000.00/yr.
