Lead Mechanical Engineer/Lead Mechanical Designer

Role Overview
We are seeking a confident Lead Mechanical Engineer / Lead Mechanical Designer with a minimum of ten years of experience in mechanical engineering within the building services industry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Leading the design on projects with mechanical construction values over $1,000,000.

• Responding to and winning Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

• Providing technical direction to a minimum of 2 subordinates daily.

• Collaborating effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external consultants.

• Managing relationships with owners, clients, and contractors.

• Conducting site reviews, managing change notices, and resolving construction issues.

• Communicating clearly and effectively.

• Applying knowledge of applicable building codes, CSA, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards.

• Sizing and selecting all equipment required for mechanical systems.

• Designing all ductwork, piping, and other mechanical systems for buildings.

• Designing mid- to high-rise residential, commercial, and institutional/educational buildings, including both renovations and new construction projects.

Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate with project teams, other disciplines, and owners. They must demonstrate critical thinking, analytical ability, and exceptional problem-solving skills.

Required qualifications and skills include:

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), or Limited Engineering License/Technologist (LEL, LET).

• Minimum of 10 years of mechanical engineering experience in building services.

• Extensive technical knowledge to deliver mechanical designs across a variety of building types, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, building automation/controls, and fire protection systems.

• In-depth knowledge of Canadian and Ontario codes and standards, including OBC, SB-1 and SB-4 supplementary standards, NFPA 13, NFPA 14, CSA B149.1, ASHRAE 62.1, and ASHRAE 90.1.

• Proven ability to lead mechanical teams in producing construction documentation, engineering calculations, coordination of mechanical elements, and verification of multiple projects simultaneously.

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills; attention to detail; resourceful; team- and client-focused.

• Working knowledge of electrical, architectural, and structural drawings and their implications on mechanical design.

• Ability to manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and handle other contract administration requirements.
