Chimo 5 Group Care Support Staff

The Chimo 5 Transition Home is a group care program that aims to support young people learn the skills to live full and complete lives in our community. The young people living at Chimo 5 Transition Home have status with the Alberta government - either Childrens Services or Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) or Delegated First Nation Agencies (DFNA). The Chimo 5 program prepares young people to return to living with their families or to transition to adult living situations and adult services (i.e. Persons with Developmental Disabilities, AISH). -

The Chimo 5 Transition Home program is currently seeking a Part Time Relief Group Care Support Staff.

Warm and caring individuals who can form strong, supportive relationships with youth from diverse and often disadvantaged backgrounds and histories. We are looking for mentors to guide youth through challenges and help them feel safe and valued.


People with some level of post-secondary education. We most often hire people with diplomas and degrees in Child and Youth Care or Social Work.

People who work best in a team environment. We are looking for team members who are excited to make lasting differences in the lives of youth while building a rewarding career in the Child and Youth Care field.

Employees with standard employee workplace skills, including good communication, decent writing skills, punctuality in starting shifts on time, able to use technology in the workplace, and a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism.

Arephysically able to do this work, including work shift work,work indoors and outdoors in all seasons, climb stairs in the group home, completehousehold management tasks (e.g., cleaning, meal prep, cooking, grocery shopping) andyard work (mowing lawns, planting gardens, raking leaves, shoveling snow). This is not a desk job.

People who understand the concepts that are important to us, including trauma-informed care, strength-based approaches, Indigenous worldviews, child and youth development, child-parent attachment, therapeutic milieu of group care.

The above position requires a diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care or a related field. Requirements of the positions include but are not limited to: day to day operations of the home, implementation of the youths in-home programming, daily documentation/reporting, teamwork and advocacy.

Successful candidates will:

  • Demonstrate care and compassion for young people
  • Possess a strong understanding of working with young people and adults who live with challenges in a variety of areas, including developmental disabilities, mental health, attachment, addictions and barriers to accessing community resources.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and writing reports/logs.
  • Current (within 6 months) Police Information Check (including vulnerable sector) and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Class 5 AB Driver's Licence, 3 full years of insurance history and a 3 year claims experience letter, a clean three-year drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle
