OVERVIEW:

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial analysis requirements of the Halo Car Wash business, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of financial statements and analysis. The role includes providing financial reports, undertaking variance analysis, ensuring procedural documentation is current, maintaining reconciliations, and partnering with business departments to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control processes. The role will be accountable for the design and implementation of internal controls and standard operating procedures. The successful candidate will also work with external and government auditors as required.

The position reports to the Controller, Retail Operations, with daily communication with the President, Halo Car Wash Inc. This role is based in the East end of Ottawa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting:

  • Oversees and executes full-cycle accounting processes, ensuring accurate recording of transactions, timely reconciliations, and preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Manages the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial results and analysis, and provides monthly reporting packages to management.
  • Performs reconciliation of bank receipts with revenue records and with the payment processor's summary.
  • Validates data in the operating system to ensure reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Maintains inventory records and records consumption in accounting records based on available information from sites and compares consumption with the estimates.
  • Responds to chargebacks and processes refunds in the normal course of business.

Financial and Operational Analysis:

  • Compiles data from accounting, ERP, and related systems to present timely and accurate operational reports.
  • Identifies Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and develops related reporting, analysis, and cadence, delivered on a timely basis
  • Undertakes variance analysis to ensure a clear understanding of financial and operational results.
  • Partners with business departments to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control current processes that impact customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency.
  • Prepares and presents financial and operational reports to senior leaders.
  • Provides strategic analysis, as needed, to drive informed decision-making.
  • Prepares annual budgets and periodic forecasts based on historical information and trends while considering the effects of future changes and conditions.

Internal control and Standard Operating Procedures:

  • Safeguards company assets by ensuring proper use of the systems and that processes and controls are implemented.
  • Documents standard operating procedures and training of colleagues to ensure consistency throughout the organization.
  • Reviews and maps internal controls and validates data used for reporting.
  • Works with external auditors and government auditors.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION & SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent business experience is required.
  • CPA designation or equivalent is an asset. Consideration will be given to candidates who are near completion of a CPA designation
  • Must be highly proficient with Excel at an intermediate or advanced level. E.g. must be able to use pivot tables, understand and use complex formulas, as required for improved efficiency.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI/Tableau, SQL is considered an asset.
  • Able to present detailed financial findings to management and answer questions/provide context.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and effective problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and also collaboratively within a team.
