The Manager, Inventory & Fixed Assets is responsible for overseeing all aspects of propane inventory management, asset tracking, and fixed asset accounting across Avenir's operations. This role ensures accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of propane inventory and capital assets, while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company policies. The Manager will work closely with operations, finance, and compliance teams to support cost control, optimize asset utilization, and safeguard company resources in a high-volume, safety-regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
Oversee the tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of propane inventory across bulk plants, delivery trucks, storage tanks, and cylinders.
Manage and reconcile parts inventory (e.g., regulators, hoses, valves, meters, and other equipment) to ensure accurate tracking, cost control, and availability for operations and customer service needs.
Develop and enforce controls for monitoring product movement from bulk purchases to customer deliveries.
Implement robust reconciliation processes to manage gains, losses, and variances in propane volumes.
Coordinate with operations to ensure timely and accurate inventory data from delivery systems.
Support monthly and year-end inventory counts and audits.
Fixed Assets Management
Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring proper capitalization, depreciation, impairment testing, and disposals.
Track and manage company-owned assets including storage facilities, fleets, cylinders, tanks, IT equipment, and infrastructure.
Partner with operations to monitor asset condition, maintenance, and lifecycle planning.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS) and Avenir's capitalization policies.
Coordinate with operations to ensure tagging and verification of all movable assets.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare and review inventory and fixed asset schedules for monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting.
Collaborate with Finance on variance analysis, cost of goods sold (COGS), and capital expenditure reporting.
Support internal and external audits by providing reconciliations and documentation.
Process Improvement & Systems
Evaluate and implement inventory management systems, ERP tools, and asset tracking technologies (e.g., barcoding, RFID).
Identify and execute opportunities for process automation and accuracy improvement.
Standardize asset management policies and procedures across all business units.
Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and develop an inventory and asset control team.
Provide training to field staff on inventory control processes and fixed asset management policies.
Act as the liaison between Finance, Operations and Compliance departments.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, or Business Administration.
CPA designation (or in progress) considered an asset.
Certification in supply chain, asset management, or related discipline (e.g., CSCP, CPIM, CTP, CFAM) is a plus.
5–8 years of experience in inventory accounting, fixed asset management, or financial control, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.
Industry experience in propane, fuel delivery, oil & gas, energy, or transportation/logistics strongly preferred.
Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems and inventory/asset management software.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong technical accounting knowledge related to inventory, COGS, and fixed assets.
Excellent reconciliation, variance analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Excel and financial systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Effective communicator and collaborator across operational and finance teams.
