Our client, NB Power, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Estimator based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. This is a 6-month contract from September 17, 2025 to March 14, 2025. Position Overview:
The Estimator acts on behalf of NB Power and is responsible for providing cost estimating support to enable better project management decision making on required cost, schedule, and risk mitigation plans to maintain project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
This role will be responsible for timely and accurate developments and issuance of estimates and supporting documents. This role will conduct detailed review of the estimates provided by the consultants. This position will coordinate information between Engineering, Procurement, Construction, schedule, cost control, etc. and participating in QRA conducted by consultants including providing inputs as required.Prepares detailed estimate of project cost based on project scope provided by the Project Manager.
Performing earned value analysis to support project management and executive reporting, including the development of improved processes for linking Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) costs and project schedules.
Performs field visits to support estimates.
Supports cost analyst in analyzing variances.
Prepares updated project cost estimates as the project is further defined.
Developing and maintaining project estimating procedures, guides, and templates that are aligned with NB Power and industry best practices.
Participates in post-mortem review of the estimates and incorporates any recommendations into subsequent estimates.
*Mandatory Qualifications:
University degree in Engineering OR an Engineering Technologist diploma.
Minimum 5 years' experience in an estimating function in capital construction projects.
Detailed knowledge of estimating tools and databases.
Experience in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products, including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel).
Education and Experience Preferences:
Experience in excess of five (5) years' experience in estimating function in capital construction projects.
Certified Estimating Professional (CEP)
Knowledge of estimating tools and databases.
Knowledge of document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products, including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel).
Key Competencies Preferences:
Advanced skills and/or experience in using Excel, In-Eight or Cleopatra or Equivalent estimating softwareWell-developed interpersonal skills are necessary in order to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing requirements to a wide range of client groups (internal and external).
Skilled in coaching of co-workers and contractors, negotiation, mediation of disputes or differences of opinion and conflict resolution.
Self-motivated, ability to work independently or in a team environment and provide leadership, support, direction, and consultation to a wide range of people.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives with strong organizational skills to meet project deadlines.
Willing to travel, participate in activities, network and build relationships.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to organize, analyze and report on various parameters and data sets.
Ability to learn to use new tools and adapt existing tools to the task at hand.
Ability to communicate in both English and French would be considered an asset.
Ability to proactively detect challenges to safety, quality, cost and schedule that will ensure development and execution of effective prevention, mitigation, or corrective actions.
