Position OverviewThis role is focused on the mechanical assembly of large, custom-built switchboard structures. The ideal candidate will have intermediate to advanced mechanical assembly skills, with the ability to read and follow engineering schematics and 3D models, and extensive experience using power tools such as impact wrenches and torque guns. Please note: this position does not involve electrical wiring.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble large switchboard structures and subassemblies using prefabricated steel and copper components, following engineering drawings.
- Mount and brace horizontal and vertical copper busbars and supports within switchboard structures.
- Operate a range of tools and equipment including ladders, punch presses, band saws, compressed air lines, and torque/impact tools.
- Construct shipping pallets based on engineering specifications.
- Apply best practices for assembly: proper torque, hardware selection, consistent fastening, and tool calibration.
- Inspect and verify mechanical parts and materials pre- and post-assembly.
- Confirm picked parts against bill of materials and resolve discrepancies.
- Identify and report design issues found in schematics.
- Rework or repair assembly defects as identified during inspection/testing.
- Adhere to CSA and UL codes and internal production quality standards.
- Cross-train and provide coverage for other assembly roles as needed.
- Maintain accurate records within internal Kanban and MRB systems.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical assembly with extensive use of power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics and 3D models.
- High mechanical aptitude with strong planning and visualization skills.
- Proficiency with power assembly tools, ladders, and pallet trucks.
- Functional computer literacy for internal tools and communications.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
- Must reside within 80 KM of Milton, ON (no relocation provided).
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking basic English.
- Technical certificate or post-secondary education in a mechanical trade.
- Experience with Oracle, Microsoft Outlook, and Autodesk Inventor.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to production demands and deadlines.
