Job SummaryThe Packaging Operator I is responsible for packaging products by operating various packaging equipment in accordance with the Master Packaging Order (MPO) and company procedures. The role ensures compliance with EH&S policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and standard operating procedures. This position has a direct impact on product quality and production efficiency, requiring attention to detail, basic equipment troubleshooting, and accurate documentation. The Packaging Operator I supports continuous improvement initiatives and may assist in the training of new employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow MPO & Compliance Protocols
- Operates equipment and performs packaging duties according to the MPO and in compliance with EH&S policies, GMPs, and other controlled procedures (e.g., SOPs, EMs, WIs, JAs).
- Documentation & Data Entry
- Completes all GMP documentation (including MPOs, labels, logbooks, and validation forms) accurately, following Data Integrity principles. Performs ERP data entry and verification tasks.
- Process Monitoring & IPCs
- Independently operates all packaging processes and conducts all required in-process checks (IPCs).
- Basic Troubleshooting & Setup
- Performs routine troubleshooting and fine-tuning of equipment. Responsible for basic equipment setup, including configuration, cleaning, dismantling, and reassembly.
- Issue Reporting
- Notifies the supervisor of any product quality concerns, processing issues, or safety incidents.
- Material Handling
- Retrieves, moves, and stores materials in designated areas of the facility per departmental needs.
- Continuous Improvement
- Participates in operational excellence initiatives such as OEE, SMED, RCPS, Kaizen, and 5S.
- Team Support & Training
- Acts as a coach to new employees, providing guidance and support during training.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Diploma or degree in a pharmaceutical or science-related field (Preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment (Required)
- 1 year of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing (Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Experience working in a GMP-compliant or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Prior exposure to ERP systems and Windows-based software
- Experience with OPEX initiatives
- Valid certification for operating manual/motorized lift trucks (as required)
- GMP and EH&S training certifications (Preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of GMPs, EH&S policies, OH&S Act, and WHMIS
- Excellent planning, multitasking, and time management skills
- Ability to perform routine calculations and data analysis
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to explain processes clearly for training purposes
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, and stair climbing throughout shift
- Heavy lifting as per Physical Demands Assessment (PDA)
- Repetitive hand/finger motions
- Use of PPE, respirator, or harness as required
- Ability to work in environments requiring auditory, visual, and tactile precision
