About the OpportunityWe are recruiting an Assistant Plant Manager to partner with plant leadership to drive safe, reliable, and efficient production at a busy manufacturing facility. You will be accountable for daily operations, team performance, and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce cost, improve quality, and deliver customer commitments.
Role Responsibilities- Lead day-to-day plant operations: ensure production targets, on-time delivery, and adherence to production schedules across departments.
- Drive safety and compliance: enforce EHS policies, conduct audits, incident investigations, and lead corrective actions to maintain a safe workplace.
- Implement continuous improvement programs (Lean, 5S, Kaizen) to raise productivity, reduce waste, and improve process stability.
- Manage people operations: coach supervisors, support hiring/training plans, conduct performance reviews, and build a high-performing front-line team.
- Own quality and cost control: partner with QA to resolve non-conformances, manage CAPAs, and optimize material labour efficiency to meet margin targets.
- Support operational reporting and planning: maintain KPI dashboards, drive root-cause analysis, and support monthly forecasting and budgeting.
Must-Have
- 3+ years in plant supervision or assistant manager role within manufacturing operations.
- Proven experience with production planning, team leadership, and delivering throughput targets in a unionized or non-unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of EHS standards and demonstrated ability to enforce safety programs.
- Hands-on experience with Lean tools, root-cause problem solving and continuous improvement projects.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP), production scheduling, and basic financial metrics (OEE, yield, labour cost).
Preferred
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field and/or certifications in Lean or Six Sigma.
- Experience in regulated industries (food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods) and knowledge of quality systems (ISO, HACCP) is an asset.
