Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Community Financial Centre (CFC) OR Manager, Business Financial Centre (BFC), the Commercial Account Manager Trainee follows a program of education and skills development to initiate, build and retain business relationships with members and potential members served by the Community Financial Centre (CFC) OR Business Financial Centre (BFC) and help to grow ACU's social impact business.

The Commercial Account Manager Trainee manages a designated portfolio of small business members with exposure to specialized markets including commercial, agribusiness and Not for Profit borrowers while promoting, negotiating, and providing advice on financial products and services that meet the needs of new and existing members. This role focuses on building foundational knowledge of financial analysis, financial products, developing client relationships and networking skills to help contribute to building a nimble organization.

This role supports Assiniboine Credit Union/ Caisse Assiniboine (ACU)'s commitment to small business, rural and agricultural communities, francophone services, values-based banking and ACU's triple bottom line accountability to people, planet, and prosperity.

Key Accountabilities:

Member Experience:

    • Interview members and potential members to gather information, determine business needs, and assess creditworthiness.
    • Conduct regular member and site visits.
    • Participate in industry events and develop a network of contacts.
    • Provide proactive, individualized financial advice and achieve set portfolio targets.
    • Foster long-term member relationships through consistent follow-up and cross-sell financial products and services.

Portfolio Management:

    • Participates in the management of a portfolio of agricultural, commercial accounts.
    • Negotiate, structure, and recommend loans for approval.
    • Conduct credit investigations, security inspections, and manage delinquent accounts.
    • Ensure profitability of loans and manage risk mitigation.
    • Evaluate and approve commercial lines of credit, letters of credit, commercial mortgage, and other loan applications within approved lending limits

Team Participation:

    • Support the organization's member service philosophy.
    • Works closely with their manager and other team members to meet department goals and objectives and ensures that members receive seamless, quality service that always meets or exceeds their expectations

Advice, Marketing, and Promotion:

    • Promote and cross-sell financial products and services.
    • Differentiate between products and services to meet member needs.
    • Participate in the development and achievement of targets and marketing plans.
    • This position is one that reinforces ACU's brand as a different financial institution and may sometimes require participation at member, community and partner events held outside regular business hours.

Risk Management

    • Monitor and manage risks within the portfolio to ensure compliance with credit union policies and procedures.
    • Identify and address potential issues, recommend appropriate actions, and maintain a thorough understanding of lending policies and security requirements to support sound decision-making.
    • Maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements at all times.

Qualifications:

Education and experience:

This position requires a diploma or degree in Business (Agribusiness), finance, accounting or a related field. Minimum 1 year of lending experience preferred within a financial institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.

Key occupational skills:

  • Basic understanding of financial principles and member service
  • Demonstrates initiative, strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good knowledge of financial products and services, legal documents, forms, procedures, monitoring systems and commercial credit policies
  • Previous experience analyzing and interpreting financial statements is critical to the success of this role
  • Effective communication, relationship building, and team orientation.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and innovative thinking skills.
  • Resiliency, results-driven, and digital literacy.
  • Bilingualism, French and English, is considered an asset

LOCATION & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is anticipated to be a hybrid role.

This position requires to support St. Claude and Elie, MB areas.
