Controller
The Controller is a pivotal leader within the Finance team, overseeing the full spectrum of accounting operations across multiple divisions and legal entities. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and the development of strong internal controls. You'll work hand-in-hand with operational teams, delivering the financial insight that drives business performance in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including AR, AP, payroll, month/year-end close, reconciliations, and preparation of consolidated financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with ASPE, tax filings, WSIB, EHT, and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage audits, prepare working papers, and strengthen internal controls.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
- Partner with operations on job costing, WIP schedules, margin analysis, and project performance tracking.
- Drive system and process improvements, leveraging ERP expertise to optimize reporting and efficiency.
- Mentor accounting staff and act as a trusted financial partner to cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- CPA or CMA designation with a Bachelor's degree (firm accounting experience an asset).
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction or project-based industries.
- Strong understanding of ASPE, multi-entity structures, and project accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP systems (Vista by Viewpoint preferred).
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, multi-deadline environment.
