The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) Canada provides strategic and operational HR support to employees across corporate, manufacturing, and field service operations, with emphasis on supporting the Scarborough manufacturing facility and shopfloor workforce. This role partners with operational leaders to drive workforce productivity, engagement, and compliance while aligning with Armstrongs global HR strategy and Canadian employment legislation.
This position is located at Armstrongs Global Headquarters in Scarborough.
In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:
Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding
- Lead the full-cycle recruitment process executive & non-executive roles in Canada, including shopfloor, field service, and professional positions, in partnership with the Total Rewards CoE and hiring managers.
- Develop recruitment strategies to attract skilled trades and technical talent for the manufacturing and operations environment.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to refine job descriptions and selection criteria.
- Oversee onboarding, including pre-hire documentation, safety orientations, Armstrong Learning Academy programs, and structured 30-60-90-day probation reviews.
- Manage offboarding processes, including exit interviews, asset recovery, and Records of Employment (RoE) completion.
Operations HR Management
- Partner closely with plant managers, supervisors, and operations leadership to address workforce planning, skills development, and employee engagement on the shopfloor.
- Support implementation of productivity, safety, and operational excellence programs from an HR perspective.
- Advise on staffing models, shift schedules, overtime, and succession planning for key operational roles.
- Develop training and development programs tailored to the needs of manufacturing and field service teams.
HR Programs & Initiatives
- Facilitate the rollout of Armstrongs global HR programs in Canada, including Individual Development Plans (IDPs), Annual Progress Review, merit process, and recognition programs.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) initiatives, promoting workplace safety and sustainability.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance HR program delivery and operational efficiency.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as the primary HR contact for the manufacturing facility, providing guidance on employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
- Support performance management, including merit reviews, coaching, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).
- Lead engagement initiatives for shopfloor teams, such as recognition events, safety week programs, and wellness activities.
- Conduct disciplinary investigations and recommend appropriate actions in line with company policies and Canadian employment law.
Compensation, Benefits & Administration
- Partner with managers and the Total Rewards team to review and recommend compensation adjustments for all employee groups, ensuring competitiveness and internal equity.
- Administer benefits programs, manage leaves of absence (including WSIB and disability claims), and process life-event changes.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and policy interpretation.
HR Operations, Compliance & Process Improvement
- Administer HR policies and ensure compliance with provincial and federal employment legislation.
- Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS and generate reports for leadership review.
- Identify and implement HR process enhancements to improve service delivery and efficiency.
Workplace Health & Safety
- Monitor compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including PPE usage, safety certifications, and incident reporting.
- Partner with plant leadership to reinforce a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Special Projects & HR Initiatives
- Lead or support HR projects related to recruitment, retention, training, and operational efficiency.
- Provide workforce data analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; CHRP designation or working towards CHRL preferred.
- 68 years of progressive HR experience, with significant time spent supporting manufacturing and/or field service operations.
- Strong understanding of HR principles, best practices, and Canadian employment legislation (ESA, OHSA, Human Rights Code, WSIB).
- Proven experience in shopfloor employee relations, recruitment of skilled trades, and workforce development in a union-free manufacturing environment.
- Skilled at balancing strategic priorities with hands-on operational support.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a bias for action.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
