At the Indigenous Primary Health Care Council (IPHCC), the Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the organizations financial operations through strong full-cycle accounting skills, attention to detail, and organizational excellence. This position is responsible for executing the month-end close process, performing general ledger account reconciliations, and assisting in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. They will also contribute to budgeting processes and ensure compliance with funder requirements. Proficiency in Dynamics GP for accounting and Workzoom for payroll processing is essential, along with a solid foundation in financial reporting, budgeting, and data analysis. Strong report writing skills and the ability to interpret financial data are critical to success in this role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Full Cycle Accounting Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations - ensure all transactions are accurately recorded. Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger.
- Perform monthly general ledger account and clearing account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness. Identify and maintain detailed records of reconciling items.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring proper documentation and approval. Monthly journal entries to include Prepaid Assets, Deferred Revenue, Accrued Liabilities, Payroll Accrual and Administration Allocation.
- Review and reconcile aged accounts receivable to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances. Communicate with stakeholders to ensure timely payments and resolve billing issues.
- Review and reconcile aged accounts payable to identify and address overdue payments. Communicate with stakeholders to resolve payment discrepancies.
- Maintain and update the general ledger Chart of Accounts to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with reporting needs.
- Perform account mapping to support financial reporting, budgeting, and system integration.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Perform variance analyses to support financial reporting integrity.
- Support the preparation of financial reporting packages to the Board of Directors.
- Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports for funders, ensuring compliance with funding agreements, reporting schedules, and financial accountability standards.
- Collaborate with program teams to align financial reporting with programmatic outcomes and funder expectations.
- Assist with developing and maintain financial templates to support budget planning and scenario analysis.
- Support the integration of budget data into financial systems.
- Assist in the preparation of the year-end audits, including preparation of working papers, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Assist in the preparation and drafting of corporate filings, including annual returns and other statutory documents.
- Support the completion of CRA filings, including T2 corporate income tax returns, T1044 NPO return, HST filings, and other required submissions.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation, including policies and procedures, to ensure consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency across all accounting functions.
- Support financial system upgrade projects, including requirement gathering, testing, data migration, and user training.
Technical Skills and Qualification Requirements
- 3-5 years of working experience, preferably within the non-profit sector.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) and actively working towards obtaining the CPA designation.
- Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards
(ASNPO), funder requirements and regulatory compliance. - Strong proficiency in accounting and payroll systems including in Dynamics GP, Workzoom,
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel;
- Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and generate meaningful insights.
- Proven ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-structured financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
