Who we need

We are seeking a Development Designer to join our newly formed Innovation and Growth team. This is an opportunity to work across both beauty and non-beauty retail environments, transforming creative concepts into technical designs that can be built efficiently and beautifully. You will design and develop in-store fixtures, displays, packaging structures, and other physical brand elements, balancing creativity with precision engineering.

In this role, you will collaborate with internal creative, sourcing, and project teams as well as vendor partners to ensure feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and quality. One day you may be creating for a luxury cosmetics line like Chanel, the next researching apparel displays, or engaging in exciting R&D projects. This variety, combined with career advancement opportunities, makes the position ideal for highly skilled, versatile designers.

This is a full-time, onsite role based at our Progress Avenue headquarters.

Whats in it for you

Career advancement. As we grow our client base, scale our operations, and embrace new technologies, you will have increasing opportunities to take on diverse, high-profile projects and expand your expertise. We invest in both people and systems, creating a clear path for you to move into roles such as Design Manager, project lead, or mentor.

Variety and challenge. One day, you may be designing apparel displays, the next researching high-end cosmetic fixtures for a luxury brand like Chanel, or developing new R&D concepts. The scope of work is fluid, giving you the chance to apply your skills across multiple sectors and project types.

Professional growth. Our teams are known for developing and training talent, helping designers strengthen their technical expertise, client-facing skills, and ability to handle projects with ambiguity and innovation. You will be part of a supportive environment that values curiosity, collaboration, and lateral thinking.

As our new Development Designer, you will:

  • Bring concepts to life. You will translate conceptual designs for retail fixtures, displays, and packaging into detailed technical drawings and specifications suitable for manufacturing. You will research and evaluate materials, construction methods, and production processes to optimize functionality, cost-effectiveness, and visual appeal.
  • Collaborate. You will work closely with creative designers, sourcing teams, project managers, sales teams, and external vendors to ensure the feasibility and quality of designs. You will participate in vendor selection and manage the communication of technical specifications to suppliers.
  • Prototype and refine. You will develop prototypes and mock-ups to test and refine designs, identifying and resolving potential manufacturing or functional challenges through fabrication or 3D printing.
  • Document and ensure compliance. You will create and maintain accurate technical documentation, including material specifications, assembly instructions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). You will ensure all designs comply with safety standards and retail environment requirements.
  • Design sustainably. You will design with Arrays sustainability standards at the forefront, integrating eco-friendly materials and practices wherever possible.
  • Improve processes. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of design and development processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and innovation.
  • Manage projects. You will manage multiple development projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets while maintaining exceptional quality.

You have:

  • The experience. You have a degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, combined with professional experience in development design. Ideally, you have worked within the retail or consumer goods industry, with exposure to both the beauty and non-beauty sectors.
  • The technical knowledge. You are highly proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp) and you can read and interpret technical drawings. You have an in-depth understanding of manufacturing processes for various materials (e.g., wood, metal, plastics) and packaging structures and materials.
  • The drive. You are solution-oriented, highly analytical, and detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality. You take pride in your work and are passionate about innovative solutions that prioritize sustainability, speed, functionality, and cost savings. You can balance multiple projects at different stages while meeting deadlines, always prioritizing the customer's objectives.
  • The interpersonal skills. You possess exceptional communication skills, enabling you to effectively share your creative thought process with stakeholders and bring ideas to life. You are naturally curious and can channel your inquisitiveness into asking probing questions that build connections and understand business needs. You can work both autonomously and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. You are highly coachable and committed to personal growth, continually seeking ways to refine your skills and expand your knowledge.

What you can expect from the interview process:

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role, the teams culture and your experience.
  • A virtual interview with the Director, Design and Development and the Manager, Design and Development.
  • An in-person or virtual interview with the VP, Global Growth & New Sales Development in Fixtures North America, the Head of New Business Development EMEA and HR Leader.
