Job Summary:
The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves managing crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials, while maintaining strong relationships with project stakeholders. The Site Superintendent will enforce safety and quality policies, monitor progress against plans, and work closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and senior leadership to resolve issues, optimize performance, and achieve project objectives.
Location:Job Site located across the Greater Toronto Area.
Hours of Operations:7:00 am to 5:00 pm (EST)
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct construction projects in full compliance with contract documents, Ascend methodologies, and industry best practices.
- Verify safety compliance for all labour forces, including subcontractors, ensuring adherence to regulatory and company safety standards.
- Ensure completion and accuracy of all required daily documentation, including daily journals, Health and Safety records, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Enforce all project safety and quality control policies without exception.
- Coordinate day-to-day construction activities, including crew assignments, equipment (owned and rented) utilization, material supply, and subcontractor performance, while maintaining positive relationships with owners, subcontractors, and unions.
- Review and analyze specifications and construction drawings; contribute to the development of the construction plan and schedule before mobilizing to the project site.
- Monitor project sites to ensure compliance with owner standards, design procedures, contract specifications, and recognized best practices.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Coordinators to identify and resolve design issues, including conflicts, unforeseen interferences, and errors or omissions.
- Work with Project Managers and Project Coordinators to plan and implement schedules, determine manpower requirements, and ensure the availability of appropriate equipment and subcontractors.
- Attend and, when required, lead project meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders to track progress and address issues.
- Review current cost reports with the Project Manager, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions for any work exceeding budgeted costs.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Construction Manager and/or Senior Management.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in construction, engineering, or related field is an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive construction experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and industry best practices in ICI or High-Rise Residential projects.
- Proven ability to read, interpret, and apply specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate diverse work crews and subcontractors.
- In-depth understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and workplace safety protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in construction management software(Procore), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and familiarity with project scheduling tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with owners, subcontractors, unions, and internal teams.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to various project sites as required.
