Human Resources Business Partner

DUCA is looking for a Human Resources Business Partner to join our growing team!

Job Purpose & Summary

The HR Business Partner provides tactical business partner support on a full range of complex HR matters to people and business leaders across the organization. Through the development of strong partnerships, the HR Business Partner will leverage deep insight of their assigned client group's operations, strategy, talent levels, opportunities, and challenges and will apply this operational knowledge and their own business acumen in providing HR best practice solutions.

Staying abreast of social, economic, and legal trends that may impact their client group and the business overall, the HR Business Partner will advise people leaders on the interpretation and administration of corporate HR policies and programs.

The HR Business Partner also supports the implementation of strategic human resources related programs and initiatives as required.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

Employee Engagement

  • Work with people and business leaders to execute a “right person, right job, right time” strategy
  • Execute strategies to mitigate the risk of turnover of “key” talent
  • Identify areas of opportunity and implement tools to better understand organizational talent; implement and put new tools into practice within assigned client groups
  • Support leaders through the identification of engagement opportunities, employee development needs, and appropriate solutions (exposure plans, career broadening, coaching, mentoring)
  • Coach leaders to hold effective career development conversations, provide positive and constructive feedback, and to recognize and engage teams
  • Support leaders with regular goal setting activities, including the creation of effective goals, and measurement criteria

Performance Management / Employee Relations

  • Ensure work environments and workplace practices promote a positive employee relations environment, free of discrimination, harassment, or any form of unfair or unethical practice
  • With support as required, conduct investigations and complete related documentation, handle employee relations matters, ensure objective evaluation and resolution of matters consistent with legislation, common law, and DUCA's organizational culture
  • Consult with and provide guidance to people leaders on individual employee performance issues; support the development of individual performance improvement plans; review and monitor progress towards the plan
  • Coach people and business leaders in effective people management practices
  • As part of the annual performance appraisal cycle, provide input and insight during the organization-wide review and analysis of employee performance ratings
  • Utilize standard and consistent tools / guidelines such as scripts, templates, checklists etc. for key HRBP processes, including termination, performance management, and investigations

Talent Management

  • Participate in the workforce planning process with business leaders; identify talent and skill requirements to achieve DUCA's business strategy and desired future state
  • Work closely with business leaders to create succession plans and associated individual development plans to resource future state
  • In partnership with the Total Rewards & HR Operations team, support business leaders with organizational structure, job description, job design and associated skill / core competency requirements

Organization Effectiveness

  • Participate in the business planning process as needed and implement employee strategies to support business initiatives
  • Assist with the needs assessment and determination of management and leadership development for business areas
  • Where applicable, participate in business projects to assess employee impacts and assist business leaders to transition to future state
  • Proactively develop trusting and collaborative relationships with people and business leaders; depending on assigned client group, become an integral member of those teams as a dedicated and embedded resource
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators; leverage data within the assigned client group and organization wide to identify trends and influence business leaders

Compensation

  • Consult and advise business partners through effective compensation decisions related to off-cycle increases and internal movements; develop and present recommendations and rationale to the Total Rewards & HR Operations team for approval
  • Support people leaders in the communication and execution of “pay for performance” and a consistent application of DUCA's compensation philosophy

The HR Business Partner may be required to take on other responsibilities as required to support the dynamic needs of the business groups they support and/or the organization overall.

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related discipline OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of progressive HR Business Partner experience
  • CHRP required, CHRL considered an asset
  • Experience in talent management and engagement strategies
  • Experience in performance management and employee relations
  • Experience coaching and consulting with people and business leaders
  • Previous experience in the financial services industry considered an asset
  • Experience with change management considered an asset
  • Experience using an HRIS system considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • A dynamic-forward thinking Human Resources Professional who is capable of helping organizations grow and change at a rapid pace
  • Knowledge in performance management, investigation best practices, employee relations, and employment law
  • Working knowledge of job design, organizational structure, and compensation practices
  • The ability to influence and lead without authority
  • Superior prioritization and time management skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple programs, activities, and priorities for various people and business leaders
  • Capable of building relationships at all levels while being proactive and responsive
  • Ability to effectively manage stressful situations with empathy and integrity
  • High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism; proven ability to demonstrate discretion and maintain sensitive or highly confidential information
  • Solid judgment and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a growing and evolving HR team and organization
  • Ability to make decisions based on facts and data, while also remaining open to different ideas and solutions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products

Working Conditions

Regular office environment. Regular travel to branch locations may be required depending on assigned client group.

Salary: The annual salary range for this position starts at $69,956. Actual annual base salaries will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education/training. Depending on the position, DUCA's total compensation package may include incentive compensation tied to company and individual performance or other benefits.
