HIEC is seeking an enthusiastic Program Coordinator and Facilitator to lead our Career Awareness programming for Grade 7 and 8 students across the Halton Region. This dynamic role is perfect for someone who thrives on engaging with youth, enjoys being out in the community, and wants to make an impact on how students explore their future career pathways.
This hybrid role combines virtual and field-based work with frequent travel to schools within Halton and occasional office-based work in Burlington. The successful candidate will deliver interactive workshops, coordinate program logistics with schools, and contribute to the continuous improvement of HIECs career programming. There will also be opportunities to represent HIEC at sector-related conferences and events.
What You Will Do:
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate career awareness and exploration workshops for Grade 7 and 8 students, primarily delivered in-person in Halton schools.
- Facilitate engaging sessions on topics such as career exploration, resume writing, interview skills, pathway planning, and labour market trends, adapting delivery for different learning styles and audiences.
- Coordinate with teachers, school administrators, and community partners to schedule and confirm programming, ensuring smooth delivery.
- Prepare and organize workshop materials, presentation slides, and program resources.
- Collect and track feedback, participation data, and program metrics to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with the HIEC team to refine and enhance program content, ensuring it remains relevant, interactive, and impactful.
- Support other HIEC programming as needed, including skilled trades awareness initiatives, apprenticeship-related projects, and other government-funded career development programs.
- Participate in community events, conferences, and sector-related engagements (e.g., OCEA, OCTE) to represent HIEC and support program promotion.
- Contribute to marketing and communications efforts by providing content and context for promotional materials, social media posts, and community outreach.
Experience you Bring to the Team:
- A passion for youth career development and a genuine interest in inspiring Grade 7 and 8 students to explore their career pathways.
- Proven facilitation skills, with experience delivering interactive workshops or presentations to youth in group settings. You know how to create energy in a room and keep students engaged.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Career Development, Education, Human Services, or a related field; CCDP designation (or in progress) is a strong asset.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in program coordination and facilitation, ideally in a school, community, or non-profit setting.
- Ability to adapt program delivery to different audiences, environments, and delivery formats (in-person and virtual).
- Organizational and scheduling skills to manage multiple school bookings, events, and program timelines at once.
- Comfort with travelling frequently within Halton to deliver programming, with occasional travel to sector-related conferences (e.g., OCEA, OCTE).
- Knowledge of career development frameworks, labour market trends, and/or skilled trades pathways is an asset.
- Strong administrative skills, including accurate data entry, program reporting, and tracking metrics for evaluation.
- Collaborative team player who is flexible and willing to support other HIEC programs as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom/Teams, and presentation tools; able to troubleshoot basic tech issues during workshops.
Good to Knows:
- Full-time contract (maternity leave coverage), with office hours Monday to Friday, with occasional evening coverage when necessary
- Frequent in-person facilitation across Halton schools (gas mileage reimbursed)
- Office-based in Burlington for planning and administration, with remote work as required.
- Valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation are required for frequent regional travel.
- Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) or Criminal Background Check will be required
