Role Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Intermediate Accountant's responsibilities include performing and carrying out various accounting and administrative tasks to support the day-to-day corporate and property accounting functions. The Intermediate Accountant ensures that all assigned tasks are completed in an accurate, timely fashion and in accordance with established company procedures, policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Bank Reconciliations
- Process and review accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations on a timely basis, adhering to all accounting procedures and policies
- Check and verify documents such as invoices and statements and follow up on discrepancies
- Liaise with vendors and the Junior Corporate Accountant to correct errors and follow up on outstanding documents
- Route vendor invoices for approval using AP automation software
- Prepare monthly billings to projects
- Work with the Property Administrator to ensure recurring service invoices are processed in a timely manner, and invoices are properly coded
- Work with Accounts Payable in getting cheque payments ready and distributed in a timely manner
Corporate and Property Management Accounting
- Prepare month-end entries for rent roll, expense accruals, prepayments and amortization for internally managed portfolio
- Prepare account analysis, journal entries and financial statements
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for corporate entities (including monthly and quarterly reporting and year-end working paper files)
- Prepare and file government information returns (GST, etc.)
- Assist with intercompany loan reconciliation
- Assist with external accountant inquiries at year-end for audit, review and compilation engagements and review of company income taxes
- Review and analyze property management reports from property managers to ensure completeness and accuracy of information for 3rd party managed portfolio
- Prepare monthly trending operating statements and financial statements. Identify and communicate budget variances to the Property Manager
- Perform monthly rent roll reconciliations and support the Property Administrator to resolve any variances
- Cashflow and treasury management, including forecasting
- Preparation and support of annual budgets and CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations
- Work with Project Accountants on month-end closing entries (Rental Income write-off, GST reconciliation, etc.) and reporting for pre-development projects
Other
- Identify and implement process enhancements to improve accuracy, automation and efficiency
- Ad hoc financial planning, analysis and reporting as required by individual partners, managers or Ownership
- Documenting and updating all accounting procedures and internal controls including procedure changes, process improvements and other projects as identified
Required skills and qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in accounting
- Sage 300 experience is an asset
- 3+ years full-cycle accounting experience
- Property accounting experience is an asset
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work both independently and within a team
- Candidates should have good knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Ability to work with confidential material and maintain high standards of ethical conduct
- Current enrolment or intention to enrol in the CPA program is preferred
What Rize offers
- Salary range $60,000 - $75,000 + discretionary bonus
