Program Overview
This position is required to be experienced in youth settlement services and knowledgeable of community resources that are available to newcomer youth. This position provides youth with academic, employment and social support. It promotes services offered by WoodGreen, in particular youth and settlement services
This position enhances local community's awareness of needs and issues faced by newcomer youth who face settlement and life challenges.
This position ensures that all program goals, statistics and outcomes are met.
What You Will Do
  • Provides information and links newcomer youth with resources in education, language development, employment, career development, housing, health care, and recreation to facilitate their academic and social integration.
  • Organizes group programs and events to support newcomer youth to develop and strengthen social networks.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates an outreach plan that promotes the range of opportunities in the areas of education, settlement, employment, language classes, bridging programs, computer training, housing, health care and other services.
  • Actively works with schools, libraries, community organizations, recreational centres, faith organizations, local employers, health and family centres, local immigrant groups, malls, to maximize clients' access to resources, and to enhance capacity for services.
  • Works with educational institutes to support youth at risk within the institution or refers them to other supports to continue their educational path in completing High School.
  • Engages with the youth to develop Action Plans to enhance their education goals within the context of their circumstances.
  • Attends community meetings, activities and events, and actively promotes the program in a professional manner.
  • Collaborates with staff members of Settlement Services and other WoodGreen units to come up with creative ideas to enhance outreach and operation capacity.
  • Works with other organizations to ensure on-going co-ordination and collaboration
  • Ensures that promotional materials are created, updated and distributed, and outreach activities are conducted as planned.
  • Ensures that all client data are entered to our database accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and documents outcomes of all services Including compiling client success stories.
  • Reports all program-related activities to the manager on a regular basis.
  • Participates as part of the Newcomer Youth team in developing and implementing unit goals and objectives.
  • Engages in training and education to upgrade skills as directed by WoodGreen Community Services to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
  • Maintains all aspects of confidentiality relating to community partners, community members and clients.
  • Ensures the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
  • Is responsible for representing the unit on internal staff committees as directed by the Manager of Settlement Services.
  • Participates in regular supervisory sessions with the Manager of Settlement Services.
  • Participates in regular staff and unit meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as required from time to time.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work, or equivalent
  • 2 or more years in settlement counseling and services
  • Knowledge of community resources in Toronto
What You Set You Apart
  • Strong English language skills both verbal and written with ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge about needs and issues of newcomer youth.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, and ability to prepare progress notes and case documents.
  • Proven ability to work and cooperate in a team and cross team.
  • Strong organizational/planning skills and team work skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekengs.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • LANGUAGE: Ability to work with clients and community partners who speak second language(s)
