Job SummaryPrinciple Projects Ltd. is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Skilled Equipment Operator to join our field team. The operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of excavators, skid steers, and other heavy equipment. This role is crucial for supporting our earthworks and industrial concrete projects, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards across various industrial sites.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Operation: Safely and skillfully operate excavators and skid steers for tasks including bulk/detailed excavation, trenching, backfilling, site grading, and material handling in support of industrial concrete projects (foundations, piles, etc.).
Safety Leadership: Champion a strong safety culture on a personal and crew level. Actively participate in and contribute to daily safety meetings (e.g., toolbox talks, FLHAs), conduct pre-trip equipment inspections, and strictly adhere to all company, client, and OHS regulations.
Planning & Execution: Read and interpret civil blueprints, survey markings, and grade stakes to precisely execute work plans.
Quality Control: Ensure all work performed meets project specifications and quality standards. Perform fine grading and finishing work with a high degree of accuracy.
Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with the site Foreman, Superintendent, and other crew members to ensure project goals are met efficiently.
Maintenance & Administration: Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment (e.g., greasing, cleaning, fluid checks). Accurately complete daily logs, equipment inspection reports, and personal timesheets.
3-5+ years of verifiable experience as a heavy equipment operator, preferably in an industrial or heavy civil construction setting.
Proven proficiency in operating both excavators and skid steers with a focus on safety and precision.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.
No specific certifications are required to apply for this position; however, candidates possessing the following tickets will be given strong preference. Please note that obtaining some of these certifications may be a condition of employment or required for specific client site access.
Construction Safety Training System (CSTS 2020)
Ground Disturbance Level II (Supervisory is an asset)
Standard First Aid with CPR/AED
H2S Alive
Confined Space Entry & Monitor
Half Mask Fit Testing (or be clean-shaven to obtain)
Standard work week is 44 hours, with potential for overtime (compensated at 1.5x rate for pre-approved hours).
Ability to work different shifts and long hours (8-12 hours) when necessary.
Physically demanding role requiring climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), kneeling, balancing, walking, stooping, and working in various weather conditions.

Site Requirements: Must be able to meet all client site access requirements, which may include specific safety protocols, background checks, or drug and alcohol testing.
Excellent starting wage of $41.00 per hour. Rate is negotiable and will be commensurate with proven experience and skill level.
Biweekly direct deposit pay schedule.
Vacation and statutory holiday pay provided as per Alberta Employment Standards.
