ABOUT THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Director, External Communications and Events, the Senior Advisor, External Events & Sponsorships is responsible for the end-to-end planning, execution and strategic alignment of external events and sponsorship initiatives. This role is instrumental in enhancing brand visibility, strengthening client and broker relationships, and supporting business growth across all business lines. The Senior Advisor leads the design and delivery of impactful trade shows, conferences, client events and sponsorship activations, ensuring every initiative aligns with corporate objectives, brand standards and budgetary guidelines. The role requires strong collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver consistent, high-quality experiences that advance our business strategy. The successful candidate will be motivated, creative and collaborative, willing to try new approaches to achieve results. The role will be well suited for someone who can get up to speed quickly, establish positive working relationships and inspire others, as well as plan and deliver creative events with different degrees of complexity.
In addition:
Develop and implement a comprehensive external events and sponsorship strategy aligned with business, marketing and communication goals.
Provide strategic counsel to internal stakeholders on event formats, sponsorship positioning, audience targeting and ROI.
Research trends, assess industry opportunities and identify strategic partnerships or sponsorships that support brand positioning.
Lead the execution of broker events, client appreciation engagements, trade shows and corporate conferences.
Coordinate all logistics including venue sourcing, vendor management, AV/staging, registration platforms, branded materials and production timelines.
Oversee event design and content in partnership with marketing and communications, including show flows, scripts and presentations.
Ensure execution quality and brand consistency across all external touchpoints.
Identify, evaluate and negotiate sponsorship opportunities that deliver strategic value and visibility.
Manage fulfillment of sponsorship deliverables, ensuring brand integration and measurable impact.
Develop sponsorship proposals and activation plans to support specific lines of business or strategic campaigns.
Manage event and sponsorship budgets, vendor contracts and reconciliations.
Track KPIs and gather post-event analytics and feedback to evaluate success and inform future planning.
Prepare regular performance reports and executive summaries.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards across all events and sponsorships.
Identify risks and apply mitigation strategies proactively.
Maintain clear documentation and approvals for all contractual agreements and activities.
Support the sourcing and inventory management of branded promotional items.
Support the team with important administrative tasks like inventory and invoice management.
Assist with internal communications related to events and sponsorships as needed.
WHAT WE REQUIRE:
- Authorized to work in Canada
- Great communication skills
- Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in business management, finance, or related field (university an asset)
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in event management, sponsorships, marketing, or client engagement within a corporate or financial services environment.
- Experience managing high-profile B2B events, including live and virtual formats.
- Bachelors degree or diploma in Event Management, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including experience interfacing with executives and external partners.
- Strategic thinker with a focus on innovation, outcomes and business impact.
- Budget management expertise and strong negotiation skills.
- Adept at using event and communication platforms (e.g., Eventbrite, Cvent, Microsoft 365, etc.).
- Professional maturity, adaptability, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Solves unforeseen situations as they arise in a calm and composed manner.
- Self-starter and ability to prioritize.
