Reporting to the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Modernization, the Network Architect plays a strategic role in shaping the future of the organization's network infrastructure, serving as both a visionary and technical authority to ensure the environment evolves to meet the needs of a modern, digital-first enterprise. The role focuses on researching, evaluating, and testing emerging technologies to assess their viability and alignment with business objectives. The Network Architect leads the design of secure, scalable, and high-performance network solutions, and oversees their implementation in collaboration with IT teams. This role supports Assiniboine Credit Union/ Caisse Assiniboine (ACU)'s commitment to rural and agricultural communities, francophone services, values-based banking and ACU's triple bottom line accountability to people, planet, and prosperity.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Network Architecture & Design
• Design and maintain the enterprise network architecture, including LAN/WAN, wireless, VPN, and cloud connectivity.
• Develop long-term strategies for network scalability, performance, and security.
• Ensure network designs meet compliance, security, and operational requirements.
• Create and maintain high-level network diagrams, standards, and documentation.
Strategic Planning & Innovation
• Lead the evaluation and selection of network technologies, tools, and vendors.
• Collaborate with the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Modernization on modernization initiatives and infrastructure roadmaps.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to inform strategic planning.
• Conduct capacity planning and performance analysis to anticipate future needs.
Implementation & Oversight
• Provide architectural oversight and guidance for network-related projects and upgrades.
• Review and approve network changes proposed by administrators to ensure alignment with architectural standards.
• Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning from a network perspective.
Support & Mentorship
• Serve as a technical escalation point for complex network issues.
• Mentor and support Network Administrators and other technical staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience
The competencies for this role would typically be acquired through a diploma or degree in Information Technology, or Computer Science plus 5+ years of progressive experience in network administration, engineering, or architecture roles. An equivalent combination of experience and industry certifications will be considered.
Key Occupational Skills
• Expert knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, VPNs).
• Comprehensive knowledge of network security principles and technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, NAC).
• Experience with cloud networking (e.g., Azure, AWS, hybrid environments).
• Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent preferred.
• Other certifications such as CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+), AWS/Azure Networking Specialty, or equivalent are assets.
Location & Work Environment
It is anticipated that this position would be located at any of the Head office locations (Winnipeg or Brandon) in with potential for remote or hybrid work arrangement. This position is expected to have at least one in-office day each week and the potential for infrequent travel potentially required to locations across Winnipeg to support organizational needs.
In this full time job, you will work 37.5 hour per week Monday-Friday.
