Achen Henderson (AH) is seeking experienced entrepreneurial professionals to join our growing network of subcontracted and entrepreneurial Fractional Controllers and CFOs. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic financial leadership to small and mid-sized businesses on a flexible, self-directed basis.

This role is ideal for seasoned accounting professionals who want to build long-term client relationships, implement impactful financial strategies and help business owners bridge the gap between todays numbers and tomorrows goals. It is also well-suited to consultants, public practitioners, and fractional executives who value autonomy, purpose, and reward.

If you are energized by the idea of helping entrepreneurs grow, and you thrive in an environment where clarity, communication, and fixed-fee value are paramount, this could be your next career-defining opportunity.

We work only with clients who understand the value of financial leadership and are willing to invest in premium advisory services. Our fixed-fee pricing reflects market rates for premium advisory services and our Fractional Controllers and CFOs are paid a premium generous percentage of the fees collected for the work they lead and deliver.

The Role: What Youll Do

As a Fractional Controller/CFO at AH, you will work closely with a small portfolio of clients, typically across the law, medical, construction, and liquor manufacturing/distribution industries. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Engage in the sales cycle with existing and new fractional controller and CFO clients, building a rapport with them and preparing custom scopes of service for new leads and existing AH clients, including setting your own monthly pricing, which you will receive the majority of.
  • Overseeing and optimizing the accounting function: Collaborate with the clients internal or external bookkeeping team to ensure systems are working as intended, financial records are clean, and key processes are in place.
  • Improving accounting controls: Evaluate and implement improved workflows, internal checks, and scalable systems that reduce risk and increase efficiency.
  • Owner alignment and strategic planning: Build deep, trusted relationships with business owners to understand their personal and business goals.
  • Translate goals into strategy: Use historical and real-time financial data to develop actionable roadmaps that tie current realities to future outcomes.
  • Financial reporting and insight: Deliver board-level reporting, KPI dashboards, and customized strategic metrics that help clients make better decisions.
  • Scope definition and sales: Attend sales discovery calls, participate in scope definition, and clearly articulate the value of the services you will provide.
  • Fixed-fee mindset: Work within a value-based pricing model where fees are defined upfront based on impact, not hours worked. Communicating and delivering value is essential.

Who Were Looking For

You are a self-directed financial leader who thrives in ambiguity and brings structure, confidence, and clarity to entrepreneurs. You are just as comfortable guiding clients through boardroom-level decisions as you are rolling up your sleeves to review general ledgers, clean up systems, or refine processes.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in public practice accounting
  • Experience in a Controller, VP Finance, or CFO role, preferably within small to mid-sized companies
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, accounting systems, and financial reporting best practices
  • Proven ability to collaborate with and oversee bookkeeping/accounting functions
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills
  • Strong ability to define, communicate, and deliver value in a fixed-fee environment
  • Experience leading or participating in discovery/sales calls to define scope of work and expectations
  • Comfortable with cloud-based systems and tools (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks Online, Dext, Hubdoc)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with clients in law, construction, medical, or liquor sectors
  • Familiarity with KPI development, forecasting, value gap planning, and business valuation
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members or client staff
  • CPA designation (Canada)

  • A fixed-fee environment that rewards clarity, efficiency, and outcomes.
  • Full support from our GURU Bookkeeping team, tax advisors, and workflow systems.
  • An opportunity to focus on what you do bestproviding financial leadership to business owners who truly need it.
  • Flexibility in schedule, workflow, and client type. Work when and how you are most effective.
