Our client in the West End GTA has a great opportunity for an experienced Director of Finance to lead its finance function. The company is a mid-sized business operating in an asset-intensive service environment. This role is an ideal fit for a detail-oriented and operationally minded financial leader who is ready to take ownership of a hands-on finance team and contribute to strategic decision-making at the executive level.
Compensation:
- $115,000 – $140,000 annually, plus performance-based bonus
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Manage and supervise the Finance Manager and Accounting Clerk, ensuring timely completion of accounting tasks and adherence to deadlines.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in collaboration with internal departments and the Management team.
- Maintain internal control systems and financial procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and financial accuracy.
- Ensure efficient handling of A/R, A/P, payroll, general ledger, and reconciliations through direct oversight and team management.
- Monitor company cash flow and manage treasury functions to maintain liquidity and financial flexibility.
- Support financial planning, modeling, and scenario analysis to inform strategic decisions.
- Coordinate and support year-end audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting in collaboration with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Evaluate and improve financial processes, tools, and systems for enhanced performance and transparency.
- Prepare internal reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities for cost containment, risk management, and operational efficiencies.
- Assist with asset management, equipment financing, and insurance-related financial administration.
Qualifications & Skills:
- CPA designation is required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive financial experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory or management role.
- Proficient understanding of Canadian GAAP or ASPE, tax regulations, and audit standards.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage) and advanced Excel proficiency.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage accounting operations in a mid-sized business.
- Experience in equipment rentals, logistics, or asset-intensive industries is a significant asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; capable of translating financial data into actionable insights.
- High attention to detail, process-oriented mindset, and strong problem-solving ability.
- Skilled in managing deadlines, delegating tasks, and mentoring finance team members.
