The opportunity

The Data and Impact Analyst contributes to the execution of the Foundation's mission impact measurement framework and data and knowledge management strategy and supports our Mission operations and fundraising efforts by providing data about our Mission priorities and impact. The ideal candidate thrives in environments with limited resources, demonstrating creativity and resourcefulness in developing solutions and advancing initiatives. Adaptability and innovative problem-solving are essential to maximize impact and drive results within a dynamic organizational landscape. Success in this position requires a high degree of flexibility and agility to navigate shifting priorities and evolving project scopes. This role provides an exciting opportunity to leverage innovative tools and technology, including AI, to demonstrate our impact and support decision-making.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Mission Impact & Evaluation, the role is responsible for a variety of activities, including:
  • Conducting various data analyses (i.e., data cleaning, validation, and analysis of administrative health data (CIHI, Statistics Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, Census), survey data, funded researcher data, polling data, and other Mission data sets) to support organizational priorities, deliverables, and to report the impact of the organization.
  • Building data hubs, data visualizations, self-serve analytics, fact sheets/reports, and presentations.
  • Developing and documenting data analysis processes, methodologies and outcomes.
  • Proposing and developing key performance indicators and metrics to assess progress of business priorities, impact and initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing data storage, data privacy, and data management solutions.
  • Conducting scientific literature searches and reviews.
  • Developing, validating and updating internal knowledge products (including statistics and facts) related to heart conditions and stroke.
How you will make an impact every day
Data Analysis and Visualization
  • Proposes and develops key performance indicators and metrics to assess progress of business priorities, impact and initiatives.
  • Provides advice on how to store, analyze, interpret and visualize the results of our data analysis to advance our mission goals.
  • Coordinates and executes various data analysis projects based on organizational priorities.
  • Programs and performs analysis of data using R or Python from the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI), Statistics Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, Canadian census, surveys, polls, funded researcher database, and other population or heart and stroke-related data.
  • Documents and validates raw data, analyzed data and program(s) used for data analysis.
  • Develops and executes various data analysis plans aligned with our organizational priorities.
  • Supports interpretation of data analysis outputs.
  • Creates and manages dashboards, data hubs, self-serve analytics, summary reports, graphs, Excel and PowerPoint files based on project needs to support evidence-guided decisions and knowledge products.
  • Creates interactive data visualizations or datahubs in Power BI or other data visualization tools (Tableau, etc.).
  • Creates and develops proper documentation for data storage, analysis, methodologies and analysis outcomes.
  • Ensures consistent data quality and executes appropriate corrective actions if errors are identified.
  • Ensures accuracy and appropriate use of statistical methodologies.

Data and Impact Reporting / Decision Support through Innovative tools and analytical approaches
  • Conducts hypothesis testing to validate assumptions and support decision-making and impact reporting.
  • Develops and implements predictive models to forecast future trends and outcomes.
  • Leverages AI and other tools and technology to support data-driven decision-making, innovation and impact reporting.
  • Creates visualizations (e.g., charts, graphs, dashboards) to present data insights in an understandable and actionable format.
  • Works closely with other departments (e.g., IT, Fundraising, Legal, Finance) to understand their data needs and provide relevant insights.
  • Develops and deploys automated data processing and analysis workflows to streamline operations.
  • Stays updated with the latest data analysis tools, techniques, and industry trends to continuously improve data analysis processes.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and implements innovative solutions to enhance data analysis efficiency.
Data Management and Governance
  • Create and work with legal team and/or IT on the storage, collection and sharing policies/procedures.
  • Implements robust security measures to protect data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Supports organizational data quality assurance and data governance efforts.
  • Provide guidance and education on the practices and standards for the use, storage, management of mission and non-mission related data and quality standards.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure data are used, interpreted and presented accurately.

Data Validation and Knowledge Products
  • Maintains awareness and knowledge of CIHI, Statistics Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, Canadian Census and broader health sector data standards and available datasets.
  • Develops, validates and updates internal knowledge products (e.g., fact sheets and key statistics and facts) to support consistency in organizational messaging (i.e., website, impact reporting to donors, press releases, presentations, etc.).
  • Validates content containing data, statistics and facts for team members across departments (Fundraising, Development, Communications) to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Conducts scientific literature searches and reviews as required.
Who we need
Education
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g., epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics) or equivalent at minimum – Master's preferred.

Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a statistical/data analysis role in a health or health innovation setting (i.e., health research, non-profit health organization, public health, health planning organization or institution).
  • Experience in data cleaning, manipulation and analysis using R or Python. Experience with SAS is an asset.
  • Experience building interactive data visualizations using Business Intelligence Tools such as Power BI for key performance measurement tracking and impact reporting.
  • Hands on experience producing data analysis products for a variety of audiences including data tables, charts/figures, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience supporting data governance, data privacy, data security, data quality management, and data documentation processes (e.g. metadata).
  • Experience conducting scientific literature reviews and knowledge synthesis is an asset.
  • Experience working with reference management software (e.g. Zotero or EndNote) is an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience in cardiovascular health or research field is an asset.
  • Experience collaborating with researchers, policymakers, decision-makers, and health system stakeholders to translate data into actionable insights.

  • Strong skills in the analysis of quantitative health data and including statistical methods for risk adjustment/standardization, survey data (e.g., weighting, non-response adjustment and imputation), forecasting.
  • Understanding of health and health services research concepts (e.g., quality of care indicators) and knowledge of the Canadian health data landscape. (e.g. CIHI, Statistics Canada data sets). Knowledge of ICD coding is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use technological tools to organize and advance the work of the team (i.e., MS Office Suite, SharePoint, BigQuery, JIRA and other workflow tools). Advanced proficiency in Excel (i.e. VBA coding, macro, pivot table).
  • In-depth understanding of data analysis documentation and data quality management.
  • Ability to think flexibly and find solutions for automating workflows and storing and manipulating data.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and some experience or knowledge of use cases of AI in data analysis and knowledge synthesis functions is an asset.
  • Proficiency in English is essential and French language proficiency is an asset.
