Description
Scope:
Responsible for managing HR programs including health & safety, labour relations, recruitment, training & development, compensation, and benefits. Requires detailed knowledge of collective agreements, company policies and employment law. When absent, duties are assumed by the General Manager or Corporate HR designate.
Functional Responsibilities:
Indirect supervision of HR/PR staff; contribute to HR strategy; ensure staff understand responsibilities and align goals with departmental and corporate objectives.

Description
Scope:
Responsible for managing HR programs including health & safety, labour relations, recruitment, training & development, compensation, and benefits. Requires detailed knowledge of collective agreements, company policies and employment law. When absent, duties are assumed by the General Manager or Corporate HR designate.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Safety: Lead health & safety initiatives including committee participation, policy development, orientation, WHMIS training, incident review, Job Safety Analysis and physical demand assessments. Manage Workers' Compensation claims and modified work programs; track safety statistics and ensure legal compliance.
- Employee / Labour Relations: Interpret and apply the collective agreement and employment law; lead union‑management meetings, respond to grievances, attend discipline meetings and assist in conflict resolution.
- Talent Management: Recruit both hourly and salaried staff; manage onboarding and termination processes; administer layoffs per collective agreement.
- Performance & Training: Oversee performance review cycles, develop performance improvement plans as needed, and identify training/development needs (including mandated and operational programs such as C‑TPAT and safety). Maintain training records and support succession planning.
- Compensation & Benefits: Use the Hood Job Evaluation system for salaried job descriptions, conduct salary surveys, manage pension & benefits program, monitor claims, support employees, and maintain the EAP program.
- General Administration: Maintain up‑to‑date job descriptions, employment records, and compliance with safety, SQF and JSA requirements; perform other HR projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- University/College Degree with 5–7 years of HR generalist experience in an industrial unionized setting, or College Diploma/Associate Degree with 10+ years' relevant experience.
- Proficiency with computers; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong negotiation and presentation skills; solid understanding of business fundamentals; thorough knowledge of employment law, collective bargaining concepts and safety regulations.
