Position: Drop-In Shift Leader

Component/Team: CTS

Status: Permanent, 1.0 FTE Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Salary Scale: $51,069 – $61,534 annualized salary plus benefits

Start Date: Immediately

Position Description:

The Drop-In Shift Leader works in conjunction with the CTS Leadership Team to ensure the smooth operations of the Drop-In and Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS).

The Drop-In Shift Leader provides role modeling and coaching to front-line staff, on-the-floor troubleshooting support related to procedures or client concerns, completes required programming reports, facilitates EMR referrals for CTS and Drop-In clients, and supports the provision of a safe environment for clients, staff, and all stakeholders. The Drop-In Shift Leader also provides supervision to students, facilitates community events as directed by the Director, works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and assists in direct service delivery throughout the program during busy times and to ensure minimum staffing requirements are met.

Reporting Relationship:

This position is directly accountable to the CTS Team Leader and through to the Director of CTS and Executive Director.

Requirements

Skills, Education and Experience:

Requirements for this position include:
Education and Language

  • College diploma in social sciences, social work, or a related discipline
  • Must be a member in good standing in the College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers
  • Equivalent experience may be considered
  • Under the Centre's designation to provide French Language Services:
    • French (oral expression): Advanced
    • French (oral comprehension): Advanced
    • French (reading comprehension): Intermediate
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written an asset

Professional Experience

  • 2 years' experience working in the substance use and/or mental health, harm reduction field
  • Experience working with a broad range of populations, including: people with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, street involved people, people with mental challenges, people with substance use disorder, and other marginalized groups
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic, client service, conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Leadership experience a definite asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrates professional boundaries
  • Ability to model professional skills in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic
  • Positive non-judgmental attitude toward street-involved people, people who are HIV+, Hep C+, people with substance use disorder and/or mental health challenges
  • Excellent active listening skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and service navigation in the national capital region
  • Ability to work within a harm reduction framework
  • Ability to de-escalate a client in a therapeutic manner
  • Ability to work under stress with multiple demands
  • Ability to identify client service needs
  • Ability to work in multiple computer programs, including EMR
  • Demonstrate abilities to building community in a drop-in style environment

Conditions of Employment:

Hours of work will be developed in collaboration with the successful candidate to ensure a healthy work-life balance. A schedule of work will be based on the Centre's hours of operation and program requirements and may include some evenings or outreach on an as needed basis.
