We are seeking a Senior Recruiter to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the delivery of strategic staffing services across Seabird Island programs and departments.
Under the direction of the HR Manager, the Senior Recruiter provides culturally informed recruitment and staffing support to internal departments and leadership. This role involves leading recruitment processes, developing new positions, managing employment contracts, and supporting placements and staffing continuity across the organization. The Senior Recruiter will also engage in community outreach and represent Seabird Island at hiring events, building strong relationships to support talent acquisition and Band Member employment goals.

This is a Maternity Leave coverage position with a start date of October 2025 end date of July 2027.

What you'll do
Recruitment Oversight
- Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies, including Band Member recruitment strategy, in collaboration with the HR Administrator (Recruiting).
- Lead the development and creation of new positions in response to organizational needs, strategic goals, or program growth, in coordination with leadership and department managers.
- Oversee the Job Requisition process to develop and maintain accurate job specifications and descriptions.
- Create recruitment materials and manage advertising of job postings through the organizations website, social media channels, and relevant external job boards.
- Build networks and talent pipelines to attract candidates for a variety of functions, including permanent roles, practicums, funded placements, and recent graduates.
- Set and maintain standards for the recruitment process, including interview logistics, candidate evaluation, and communication protocols.
- Screen, interview, and assess candidates to ensure alignment with organizational values, qualifications, and role requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between candidates and the organization throughout the recruitment and selection process, ensuring timely and professional communication.
- Negotiate employment terms with selected candidates in alignment with internal policy, funding guidelines, and market standards.
- Provide direction, oversight, and mentorship to the HR Administrator (Recruiting).
- Maintain accurate records of recruitment activity and provide regular reports on hiring progress, outreach efforts, and position status.
Staffing Oversight
- Oversee the tracking of contract end dates and renewal timelines to ensure continuity of staffing, timely decision-making, and compliance with funding and legal requirements.
- Manage practicum and funded employment placements by working collaboratively with post-secondary institutions, funding bodies, and internal departments to ensure successful placement planning, supervision, and reporting.
- Draft, review, and manage all employment-related agreements including new hires, contract renewals, term extensions, acting assignments, and relocation agreements.
- Ensure that staffing decisions and documentation are aligned with internal policies, budget availability, and strategic workforce planning.
- Maintain strong relationships with managers and team leads to understand staffing needs and provide ongoing support.
- Ensure consistency, compliance, and high standards in all processes and documentation, while adapting to changes in organizational structure or funding frameworks.
Systems Management and Development
- Lead updates to and development of recruitment processes, procedures, and systems, including sourcing and implementing an applicant tracking system for candidate management and internal databases.
- Develop written recruitment protocols and procedures; lead recruitment training for staff and streamline organization-wide processes.
- Facilitate ongoing training for hiring leads and management on effective recruitment and onboarding best practices.
- Assess the effectiveness of recruitment and onboarding processes by collecting and analyzing data, incorporating best practices, and implementing continuous improvements.
- Develop innovative recruiting techniques and outreach strategies to build a diverse and qualified talent pool (e.g., social media, direct recruiting, job boards, employee referrals).
- Design and implement easy-to-use recruitment templates and forms, such as reference check forms, standard email templates, recruitment manuals, and guides.
- Manage and maintain applicant tracking systems and centralized databases of candidates for current and future hiring needs.
Business Development and Proposal Staffing
- Collaborate with proposal leaders to develop competitive staffing strategies for funding proposals, including identification of key personnel and required documentation.
- Oversee customization of CVs for bid submissions; train staff on aligning CVs and bios to meet solicitation requirements.
- Format and tailor CVs and personnel sections to fit proposal needs, including writing bioblurbs, letters of commitment, and staffing narratives.
- Advise technical leads on developing compelling candidate profiles that demonstrate alignment with contract requirements.
- Provide quality assurance for staffing-related proposal inputs and lead training to improve consistency and impact of recruitment content for bids.
Other Duties
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
- Provide support to Payroll by ensuring employee information is accurate and submitted in a timelymanner.
- Demonstrate Seabird Island Bands values through respectful and culturally informed interactions withall individuals.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Human Resources Certificate or Register Professional Recruiter (RPR) certificate required. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Minimum 3 years of recruitment experience, ideally in a First Nations or Indigenous organization.
- Knowledge of employment laws and recruitment best practices, especially those relevant to hiring.
- Skilled in interviewing at all levels and assessing candidate fit.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Friendly, outgoing, and people-focused, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable using online recruitment tools (e.g., LinkedIn), sourcing talent, and attending job fairs or community events.
- Familiar with HR systems and applicant tracking software; BambooHR experience is an asset.
Preferred:

- Knowledge and understanding of Seabird Islands culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally to community or colleague needs and inquiries.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

- Awareness of the impacts of colonization and the importance of trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches.
- Ability to build respectful relationships with community members, Elders, and leadership.
Working / Special Conditions
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record ReviewProgram Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will beconducted every five years.

- Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation, insured for community-based use, to effectively travel to job fairs and other events.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs and schedules of events, meetings, and engagements. Employees will be given as much notice as possible to any changes in schedule.
