Overview:
This position offers an exceptional opportunity for an external candidate to join Canad Inns and cultivate their skills under the guidance of an experienced General Manager. The Assistant General Manager will collaborate closely with the General Manager to gain comprehensive knowledge of all facets of hotel operations, with the goal of advancing to the role of General Manager. This role entails supporting the General Manager in daily operations, providing leadership to department managers, and contributing to the ongoing enhancement of service standards, sales, and cost management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support and Assist: Learn to support and assist the hotel General Manager in daily operations.
- Leadership Development: Develop skills to lead, guide, and direct all aspects of the property.
- Planning and Budgeting: Gain experience in implementing plans, projections, and budgets in the absence of the General Manager.
- Operational Management: Learn to plan, organize, direct, audit, and control operations in accordance with corporate policies, goals, and objectives.
- Staff Management: Develop the ability to hire, train, motivate, and evaluate staff.
- Health and Safety: Learn to ensure the health and safety of guests and staff through training, communication, inspections, preventative maintenance, and general upkeep of the property.
- Brand-Specific Training: Participate in brand-specific training for each of the brands.
- Scheduling: Learn to schedule hourly and salaried employees according to business volumes.
- Property Maintenance: Conduct daily walk-throughs to assess property condition and maintenance needs.
- Purchasing Processes: Understand how to order daily needed items like food, liquor, and supplies.
- Marketing Requests: Learn to handle marketing requests.
- Property Improvement: Gain experience in managing FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) and property improvement requests.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary designation in Hospitality management or a related discipline.
- 4 years of hotel management experience, including room management.
- Ability to manage change effectively.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Proven ability to lead a complex integrated business operation that has diverse profit centres.
