Full Job Description
Our client is a family-owned firm recognized internationally for innovation in timber engineering, digital fabrication, and complex geometry structures. From buildings to bridges, they specialize in designing and building sophisticated timber structures that integrate materials like steel, glass, and concrete. Every project is a chance to push the boundaries of structural design and craftsmanship.
As a Computational Structural Engineer, you'll be part of a highly skilled Computational Design & Engineering team that leads the design and digital fabrication of freeform and geometrically complex structures. You'll work hands-on from concept through installation, collaborating with in-house software engineers, structural engineers, and CNC specialists to bring cutting-edge designs to life.
What You'll Do
Develop and manage 3D structural models-from concept to installation.
Design for fabrication and structural performance in close coordination with shop floor and CNC teams.
Build custom parametric tools and Grasshopper plug-ins to automate complex geometry modeling.
Produce fabrication drawings and CNC-ready files.
Integrate structural analysis tools (e.g., Karamba) into design workflows.
Collaborate across teams to ensure accurate model translation into machine and human-readable outputs.
Support standardization and continuous improvement in structural and fabrication processes.
What You Bring
Bachelor's or Master's in Structural Engineering.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng or PE) registration (or in progress).
3-5 years' experience with Rhino and Grasshopper for structural or architectural modeling.
Proficiency in C#, VB.NET, or Python (3-5 years).
Experience with digital fabrication and CNC workflows.
Familiarity with structural analysis tools (Karamba a plus).
Bonus: Web programming (Node.js, WebGL) and CNC interface experience (G-code, BTL, BVX).
Who You'll Work With
You'll report to the Managing Director of Structural Engineering, while collaborating with software developers, computational designers, and CNC fabricators.
What's Offered
3 weeks' vacation
Extended health & dental
Life & disability insurance
Employee & family assistance program
RRSP matching after 2 years
This is a rare opportunity to contribute to innovative, award-winning work in timber and hybrid construction, from concept to CNC.
