Job Title: Construction Area Lead, M+P

Reporting to the Director of Construction, this role is responsible for leading and overseeing the successful execution of construction activities for the Eskay Creek Project, with a strong focus on mechanical and piping (M+P) scopes. Key responsibilities include the planning and execution of pipeline systems, water treatment facilities, utility infrastructure, and associated civil and structural works. The role ensures all construction is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project specifications, budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Construction Planning & Execution (Mechanical & Piping Focus)

  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate the safe execution of mechanical and piping (M+P) construction activities, with oversight of supporting civil and structural scopes, in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and technical specifications.
  • Lead day-to-day field activities to ensure smooth execution of M+P works in accordance with construction work packages and interface milestones.
  • Provide input on sequencing and method statements to optimize M+P installation efficiency.

Contractor & Workforce Oversight

  • Supervise contractors and direct labor executing mechanical and piping works, ensuring effective coordination between trades and work fronts.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, promoting workforce development and technical growth on site.

Compliance & Safety Leadership

  • Ensure strict adherence to applicable Canadian codes, safety standards, and site-specific HSE programs relevant to mechanical systems and pressure piping.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all M+P construction activities, including active participation in safety audits and field-level hazard assessments.

Interface & Coordination

  • Act as a key liaison between construction, engineering, procurement, and project controls to align M+P field execution with design intent and procurement schedules.
  • Support constructability reviews and provide practical field insights to improve M+P system design and execution strategies.

Quality & Progress Management

  • Monitor quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) compliance specific to mechanical installations, piping fabrication, welding, and system testing.
  • Track and document M+P progress, productivity, and resource utilization, contributing to accurate reporting and forecasting.

Meetings & Support Activities

  • Participate in daily and weekly planning, safety, and coordination meetings to ensure alignment across all disciplines.
  • Support commissioning teams with field readiness checks, punch list resolution, and pre-startup walkdowns of mechanical and piping systems.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of construction experience, preferably in mining projects in the construction phase.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or superintendent role overseeing field installation work.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, schedules, and budgets in remote and logistically challenging environments.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to work in Canada; willingness to work in a remote camp environment on a rotational schedule.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is CA$150,000- CA$200,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
