Legal Assistant Aboriginal Law

About the Opportunity:
Our client, a nationally recognized business law firm with offices in major Canadian financial districts, is seeking a skilled Legal Assistant to join their Vancouver office. This role supports a group of lawyers working primarily in Aboriginal/Indigenous law, with connections to environmental and natural resources law. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting both solicitors and litigators, and possess a detail-oriented, adaptable, and collaborative approach to their work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to a team of lawyers focused on Aboriginal/Indigenous, environmental, and natural resources law
- Independently manage schedules, coordinate complex meetings, and liaise with Indigenous clients
- Prepare, edit, and finalize correspondence, legal documentation, and materials for submission to courts and regulatory bodies
- Assist with the preparation and finalization of litigation materials for all court levels, including BC courts, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada
- Organize files and support general practice management functions
- Book travel and accommodations as needed for client and internal meetings
- Handle day-to-day administrative tasks, including docketing, billing, and expense tracking
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with clients, court staff, and legal offices
- Ensure confidentiality and consistently produce high-quality, timely work
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Legal Assistant, ideally with exposure to litigation
- Completion of a post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with BC Supreme Court Civil Rules, tribunals, and regulatory body procedures
- Knowledge of or interest in Aboriginal/Indigenous or environmental law is an asset
- Ability to manage competing demands under pressure
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Organized, resourceful, and detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range of $60,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
