Job Description

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the Legal Claims and Insurance Coordinator provides a full range of support activities to the members of the Legal Claims and Insurance team.

  • Maintains a centralized repository of legal claims that tracks all claims and potential claims allowing for data reporting
  • Coordinates meetings with internal and external parties, including witness prep meetings for examinations for discovery
  • Assists the Legal Claims and Risk Specialist with fulfilling undertaking requests and collecting documents or records required for the litigation process
  • Manages the legal department calendar for important dates (hearings, deadlines, etc.)
  • Act as the key contact for accepting service of legal documents and facilitating service on staff
  • Communicates with internal and external parties, including external counsel and HIROC, our insurer
  • Assisting the Associate General Counsel with compiling the data for reporting of claims status and trends
  • Attends regular touch point meetings with hospital departments to track potential claims
  • Tracks insurance renewal dates
  • Assists in obtaining the data and information required to support the insurance policy renewal process from various departments at Osler
  • Processes Insurance Invoices
  • Manages the insurance internal file, keeping track of policy documents, policy renewal documents, invoices, etc.
  • Manages Certificate of Insurance Requests
  • Provides administrative support to the legal department as needed
  • Maintains the legal department email inbox and mail box
  • Provides support to the legal team with respect to meetings, staff training, etc.
Qualifications
  • Completion of college diploma required
  • Certification in Risk Management or Health Law preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a hospital or other similar setting with a focus on providing support for legal claims management. Experience with insurance renewals also an asset
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Meditech/EPIC an asset
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of the litigation claims process
  • Flexibility to meet the demands of a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with emphasis on coordination of time and resources to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively and in a timely manner
  • Highly motivated, self-directed with demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team and the ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills; verbal and written
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record
  • Travel between the Hospital's sites and to external meetings may be required

Hours: Currently days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

This is a Hybrid: Roles that function remotely, but require essential, regular onsite weekly work

Annual Salary:
Minimum: $72,189.00
Maximum: $90,246.00
