Position Summary

Bow Valley College is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Risk & Insurance Manager to lead and evolve our enterprise risk management (ERM) program, oversee our insurance portfolio, and guide legislative compliance activities. Reporting to the Director, Strategy, Risk & Project Management, the Risk & Insurance Manager will play a pivotal role in building institutional resilience through strategic oversight of risk governance, risk appetite, and mitigation planning. This individual will ensure that Bow Valley College has sufficient and appropriate insurance coverage, while also managing relationships with providers and consortia, and handling claims processes when required.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in enterprise risk management frameworks, with a deep understanding of elements such as risk strategy, culture, assessment, reporting, and technology integration. They will collaborate with college leadership to identify, assess, and manage strategic and operational risks, develop and maintain the risk register, and support contingency and business continuity planning. As the Colleges representative in the Alberta post-secondary insurance consortium, the incumbent will ensure our institutional needs are met and lead the acquisition of specialized coverage as needed.

In addition to risk and insurance management, this role includes oversight of the Colleges annual legislative compliance process. The Risk & Insurance Manager will ensure awareness and tracking of compliance requirements across departments and will report findings to the Executive and the Board of Governors, making recommendations to mitigate the risks of non-compliance.

This position also contributes to strategic planning through the development of multi-year service plans, policy and procedure updates, and support of the Colleges internal audit plan. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of experience in enterprise risk management and/or insurance, professional training in both fields, and a Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Preferred qualifications include strong Microsoft Office and Power BI skills, and prior team leadership experience with demonstrated coaching abilities. A proactive, analytical mindset, excellent communication and relationship-building talents, and the ability to navigate complex systems with a strategic lens are essential to success in this role.

Join Bow Valley College and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence, where your expertise will help shape the future of risk management in post-secondary education.

If your education was received internationally we will require you provide an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire.

Closing Date: August 10, 2025

This opening is a continuous (Exempt) position. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check.
