Summary:
AGAT Laboratories is hiring a Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist – GC/MS. This is a mid-level position working in the laboratory, given direction from the Operations or Lab Manager. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert with responsibilities for maintaining and optimizing GC/MS instruments within the Molecular and Isotopic Geochemistry Lab. Additionally, this role requires one to be able to work independently on laboratory activities. This position will be based in Calgary, candidate will need to be flexible to support other AGAT laboratory locations as needed.
What you will be doing:
- Calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all instruments under the Specialist's area of expertise.
- Process and Analyze samples for GC and GC/MS testing within the Molecular and Isotope Geochemistry Lab.
- Implement and manage preventative maintenance program to ensure optimal equipment readiness.
- Review and ensure QA/QC objectives are appropriate and being met.
- Provide technical and instrumentation support to other lab staff.
- Assist management in improving efficiencies throughout operations.
- Develop and review SOPs.
- Research new methodologies and participate in R&D projects.
- Liaise with both clients and suppliers where required.
- Follow all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 3+ years experience with GC/MS instrumentation required.
- Science or Engineering post-secondary education preferred.
- Significant experience with the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of GC/MS instrumentation.
- Experience with sample preparation techniques including: SARA, liquid chromatography, solvent extractions and exchanges,
- Strong background in Organic / Petroleum Chemistry or Geochemistry
- Knowledge of chromatographic processing software (e.g., Agilent Mass Hunter) is an asset.
- Proficiency in Excel and data management.
- Good communication skills.
- Work in a positive manner as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deliverables within a fast-paced working environment.
