From laying down the blueprints to implementing policies, they're dedicated to fostering Beaumont's economic, social, ecological, and cultural well-being. The Planning and Development team are looking for an enthusiastic and meticulous individual for their Development Compliance Officer role. The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide technical and administrative compliance monitoring and enforcement related to the Land Use Bylaw, allowing for safe and orderly development across the City. This will include activities related to development and safety code permits, development enforcement, inspections, community education and other development related matters.
The Development Compliance Officer primarily manages the investigations of land use complaints. This positions proactively provides educational outreach and liaises with residents and business in a respectful manner to ensure public awareness and application of City of Beaumont Land Use Bylaw. The Development Compliance Officer interacts with residents daily and must possess strong communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service to members of the public.
What YOU'RE Responsible for:
  • Enforce compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and other relevant municipal regulations, including issuing orders under the Municipal Government Act.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure developments align with approved plans, permits, and bylaws, using a proactive and collaborative approach to resolve compliance issues.
  • Address complaints related to land use, provide professional planning advice, and assist with interpreting the Land Use Bylaw for residents, development industry, and other interest groups.
  • Prepare and present evidence for legislative hearings, including the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
  • Monitor commercial and multi-family developments to ensure compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and permit conditions.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and educational materials to ensure consistency in enforcement and maintain accurate enforcement files and databases.
  • Supports Planning staff in the review of applications for compliance certificates and prepares documentation for issuance.
  • Support enforcement for additional bylaws, including business licensing, drainage, noise, and safety codes.
  • Engage with the community on enforcement campaigns and compliance monitoring initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to Legislative regulations, Safety Directives and procedures and all respectful workplace standards.
  • Report unsafe conditions and near miss incidents promptly.
  • Attend regular safety meetings and promote a positive attitude.
What YOU Bring:
  • A diploma related to land use planning, bylaw enforcement, or a related discipline is required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Municipal Enforcement or Planning & Development experience with the Land Use Bylaw is required.
  • Completion of the University of Alberta's ALUP Program is an asset.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation training is an asset.
  • Understands and applies Provincial and Municipal Planning policies, legislation, processes, procedures, Land Use Bylaws, and statutory plans.
  • Works collaboratively with and communicates effectively and positively with other team members department, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting building plans, real property reports, drafting standards, and legal agreements such as development and building permits, development agreements.
  • Manages time effectively to juggle multiple deadlines and tasks and is required to work within irregular and tight time frames.
  • Makes sound decisions by using rational and logical judgement that reflects an understanding of the consequences of decisions.
  • Able to work under stressful work conditions and to think and react quickly and effectively to problems that may arise from time to time.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Possesses a valid class 5 driver's license
  • Equivalencies may be considered.

  • A salary range of $72,563.40 - $94, 676.40 per annum (based on experience and qualifications).
