PURPOSE OF GROUP / UNIT:

The Operations group works as a team to plan and efficiently execute processes that will provide high quality services to clients. Their scope encompasses material handling, processing, and facilities upkeep.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

As an important member of the POS Biosciences' Operations team, the Operations Labourer's duties may encompass all or some of the following, as appropriate to the worker's skills and the company's job requirements. The Operations Labourer is an in-scope position under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain the plant and areas of operation in clean and safe working conditions including cleanup of spills from processes and general housekeeping.
  2. Ensure assigned activities are carried out safely and effectively, within the guidelines of the Standard Operating Procedures and within GMP and HACCP standards.
  3. Ensure policies, safety standards, regulations and protocols are always followed and adhered to.
  4. Maintain knowledge an awareness of plant safety and fire prevention as part of execution of activities, which may vary from assignment to assignment.
  5. Assist Operators with basic process assistance not requiring of equipment training and experience, to be of Supervisor discretion.
  6. Assist Warehouse with material handling requirements not requiring specialized training.
  7. Cleaning of mobile equipment, tanks, and parts.
  8. Participate in any Lean initiatives as assigned by Management.
  9. Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained and communicate accurately and timely to Shift Supervisors and team members.
  10. Show a positive work attitude in performing assigned tasks. Work effectively with others as a team and ensure positive and productive work relationships are maintained within the department and company.
  11. Complete timecard entries in ERP system tracking work assignment.

CRITICAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES

  1. Good communication, innovative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  2. Initiative; good planning and organizational abilities.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced processing environment. Ability to handle stress, multi-task and display patience and tolerance.
  4. Strong desire to learn.
  5. Knowledge of shop tool operation or processing equipment is an asset.
  6. Team player: ability to work well with others.
  7. Self motivated with problem solving skills and the ability to work independently.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma.
  • Cleaning equipment and small hand tools.
  • Experience in a food processing plant environment is an asset.
