What is the role?

As a Structural Designer in LEAs Buildings team, you will support the design and delivery of structural systems for commercial, institutional, and residential projects across Ontario. You will work closely with experienced engineers to develop design concepts, prepare structural drawings and specifications, and participate in construction reviews and coordination meetings. This role offers hands-on experience across all projects.

In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop structural engineering designs for (Institutional, Commercial, Residential, and Transit) projects, from concept through to construction completion.
  • Assist with the assembly of contract documents including structural engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Execute construction review of structures to ensure general conformance with the contract documents.
  • Liaise with project team members, sub-consultants, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination of technical aspects throughout the project.
  • Participate in project meetings, addressing design-related queries and providing technical input.
  • Represent LEA in coordination meetings with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality project designs.
  • Ensure quality control and assurance measures are followed throughout the project to maintain the accuracy of design elements, the presentation of technical details, the readability of drawings, and adherence to design standards.
  • Participate in conducting site visits, undertaking research, data collection/field reviews, data summary, and documenting observations to prepare reports relating to project site existing and new structures.
  • Continuously grow professional skills and knowledge through training sessions, seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends, software, and technology.
  • Assisting with managing other related assignments within the scope of the Structures Division, which may include supporting the Transit or the Bridge Sectors.

The qualifications you need:

  • Bachelor of Structural Engineering, with 12 years of experience in structural building design.
  • Working toward obtaining a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Understanding of the Ontario Building Code and reference material design standards
  • Knowledge of one or more of the Structural Analysis software (such as ETABS, SAP, and SAFE; working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, or MicroStation is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strategic and process-oriented, prefers to operate in a fast and dynamic environment.
  • Team player and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Able to prioritize tasks with excellent organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and commendable problem-solving skills.

The work arrangement:

LEA operates in a hybrid environment to ensure flexibility, safety, and the well-being of everyone. Periodic attendance at our Toronto office is expected to facilitate in-person learning of new tasks with experienced senior staff.
