We're looking for a Peer Support Worker to join our Early Psychosis InterventionTeam!

As part of an interprofessional team supporting individuals aged 14-35 experiencing a first episode of psychosis, the Peer Support Worker will use and share their lived experience and expertise in recovery philosophy, self-care, and symptom management.

The Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) program provides standardized, evidence-based treatment through a coordinated care model - the NAVIGATE Program for Early Psychosis Intervention.

Status: Permanent full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Note, this posting is for an active vacancy.

Salary: $61,201.01 - $72,001.19 annually. (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)


Location: This position is based out of 60 West Dr, Brampton. Due to the nature of this program, this role is on-site and/or community based.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with clients around assessment and development of goals for recovery using one-to-one and group sessions
  • Establishing a supportive relationship with clients providing collaborative care plans, recovery-oriented assessment, psychoeducation and case management support to clients, their families and support systems
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and collaboratively with EPI partnership to ensure comprehensive supports
  • Utilize tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Holistic Crisis Plan to assist clients in creating individual care plans
  • Support clients in developing
    empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy
  • Assist to identify and combat negative self-talk and identify and overcome fears by sharing own techniques and strategies
  • Manage a caseload including regular re-assessments, updating risk levels and caseload reviews
  • Facilitate groups as part of CMHA PDs multi-disciplinary team, including the creation of new groups and act as a back-up facilitator
  • Refer and link clients to community resources and groups that support recovery goals
  • Update all appropriate documentation within 24 hours of client contact, as required by CMHA PD policy and procedure
  • Participate in the Peer Community of Practice and contribute to program development, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and to the research and educational activities of the service

What You Need to Join Our Team

  • Lived experience with mental health and/or addiction (psychosis is strongly preferred) and established recovery, as well as a willingness to share experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline (e.g., BSW, MSW, OT, RN)
  • Peer certification is an asset
  • Regulated Health Professional designation is an asset
  • At least 2-3 years of experience providing peer support to adults with serious mental illness
  • Experience in a mental health/addiction setting and in completing psychosocial assessments and facilitating groups as appropriate for the first episode psychosis clients
  • The following experience / trainings are an asset with an expectation to attend trainings as they become available:
    • Peer Support Certifications
    • Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
    • Knowledge of mental illnesses (especially schizophrenia and primary mood disorders with psychosis)
    • Concurrent Disorders
    • Cognitive Behavioural Skills
    • Motivational Interviewing
    • Trauma Informed Care
    • Virtual Care
    • Interprofessional Multi-Disciplinary Teams
    • Crisis Intervention Skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
  • Valid Canadian drivers license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
