ABOUT THE ROLE:

The F&B Team Lead is a dynamic role responsible for assisting the Food & Beverage Manager in daily operations at Sweat and Tonic. This part-time position requires excellent leadership skills to create a positive work environment, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with company policies and health regulations. The Team Lead will prepare and serve espresso-based beverages, teas, smoothies, and food items according to established quality standards while maintaining proficiency with equipment. They will oversee inventory management, process payments, maintain cleanliness throughout the café, and facilitate communication between shifts. This role demands flexible availability including evenings and weekends, and requires someone who can effectively balance operational excellence with team development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Food & Beverage Manager in overseeing daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, scheduling, and task delegation.
  • Model exceptional leadership by creating a positive work environment, coaching team members, and demonstrating a professional approach to team management.
  • Foster a positive workplace that encourages open dialogue and communication among team members.
  • Ensure all café activities comply with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare and serve espresso-based beverages, tea, and smoothies according to established recipes and quality standards—ensure your team is set up for success daily.
  • Prepare and serve food items, including toasts, baked goods, and snacks.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with equipment and recipes, including espresso machines, POS systems, fridges, and food prep equipment.
  • Maintain impeccable organization and cleanliness throughout the front of house, dining, and kitchen areas.
  • Manage inventory, including procurement and tracking of all food, beverage, and other goods for use or sale.
  • Process customer payments efficiently and accurately using our POS system.
  • Keep the café clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
  • Stock and replenish supplies, including coffee beans, tea bags, packaging, and other consumables.
  • Facilitate daily communication and shift briefings between the AM & PM teams.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have 2+ years of experience in a food and beverage setting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • You have strong barista skills with in-depth knowledge of coffee preparation, techniques, and trends.
  • You are an excellent leader with proven experience in team motivation and development.
  • You provide exceptional customer service with the ability to create memorable guest experiences.
  • You excel at multi-tasking and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are proficient with POS systems and inventory management.
  • You have a Food Handler's Certification or are willing to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • You possess Smart Serve certification or are willing to obtain it within 30 days of employment.
  • You are able to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • You have excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey information to team members and management.
  • You are a strong problem-solver and can think quickly on your feet.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in a retail, cafe or hospitality environment is preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience as a bartender is an asset, but not required.
  • Food Handlers certification is an asset, but not required.
  • Smart Serve certification is an asset, but not required.
