Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Director of Clinics, Perioperative and Procedures, this role provides essential clinical support during operative and other invasive procedures. The incumbent will assist the clinical team by gathering patient-specific supplies in accordance with the surgical pick list and surgeon preference cards. Additionally, the role supports the operating room team in the setup of clinical equipment under the direction of nursing staff. Key responsibilities include maintaining service-specific supply levels in the operating room, managing specialty inventory, and supporting quality improvement initiatives. The role also collaborates closely with quality and leadership teams on process improvement projects to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate as a collaborative member of the operating room (OR) team

  • Serve as a liaison between OR nursing staff and other clinical team members to support room operations

  • Proactively review OR cases 24 hours in advance to identify required supplies; monitor daily and weekly surgical schedules to anticipate supply needs

  • Apply inventory management principles such as par level and first-in/first-out (FIFO) to prevent stockouts and minimize expired items

  • Monitor and track low-usage and expired products within the OR

  • Collaborate with the Team Leader to identify trends and recommend updates to surgical pick lists and surgeon preference cards

  • Exercise independent judgment in coordinating the picking and delivery of supplies; work closely with Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) and Supply Chain to ensure supply availability

  • Pull surgical case-specific supplies and add them to case carts; verify case carts for completeness

  • Actively participate in the Quality Assurance Committee and contribute to OR quality improvement and efficiency initiatives, including optimization of pick lists and on-time starts

  • Support follow-up actions on supply or equipment-related safety reports in collaboration with the OR Clinical Coordinator

  • Review and restock supply carts in all ORs to ensure readiness

  • Practice and uphold aseptic techniques and infection prevention protocols

  • Promptly report safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or repair needs to the appropriate channels

Corporate Responsibilities

  • Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in health-related discipline preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience working within an Operating Room environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills, ability to plan work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, coupled with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet frequent deadlines and changing priorities
  • Capability to work independently, be flexible and adaptable
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check/vulnerable sector check
  • Provide proof of Immunization and TB records
