Accounting Manager
Location: Etobicoke, ON (Hybrid 3 days/week in office, with occasional travel to King City, ON)
Compensation: $70,000$80,000 base salary + benefits
About the Opportunity
Our client is a mission-led food company offering premium, Canadian-sourced protein products through major grocery chains, natural retailers, catering, and direct-to-consumer channels. As the company continues to grow, they are seeking an Accounting Manager with strong food & beverage cost control experience to join their Finance team.
This role is ideal for someone who combines financial acumen with operational curiosity particularly in food costing, waste analysis, and kitchen inventory performance. Youll work closely with finance, operations, and catering teams to bring clarity to numbers and insights to the table.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and journal entries
- Review and approve monthly account and bank reconciliations
- Generate transactional data and ad hoc analysis to support operational decisions
- Provide recommendations based on cost and performance trends
- Supervise and support members of the finance team on policy and procedural best practices
Food Cost Management & Catering Support
- Analyze food costs, menu profitability, and ingredient-level margins
- Track food waste and support implementation of waste reduction strategies
- Monitor portion control and recipe adherence to ensure expected yields
- Oversee inventory levels, conduct regular counts, and assist with ordering
- Partner with kitchen leadership and suppliers to optimize purchasing
- Provide training on portioning, cost awareness, and waste prevention
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 35 years of accounting and food cost management experience in a kitchen, catering, or restaurant environment
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities
- Comfortable multitasking and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Power BI
- Strong general computer skills and ability to adapt to new platforms quickly
