THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting directly to Vice President of Performance, Support Services, and Chief Financial Officer, as the Manager of Facilities & Capital Planning at GBGH, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe and seamless operation and continuous improvement of our healthcare infrastructure. This dynamic position combines strategic planning, project management, and team leadership to maintain our commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. GBGH is working through a number of capital redevelopment projects at various stages currently, this is an amazing opportunity to shape the health infrastructure of a community hospital and how it responds to the growing needs of a passionate community.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role your key responsibilities will include:

  • Facilities Management: You will spearhead initiatives to maintain and enhance the functionality of our hospital facilities. This involves overseeing the day-to-day operations, development of policies and procedures, managing maintenance schedules, and collaborating with department heads to address specific needs. Your strategic approach will contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our healthcare environment. Plus, plan for short- and long-term infrastructure needs, and ensure that the architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and environmental components of the existing facility are fully operational in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Capital Planning and Project Management: In collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will lead the planning and execution of capital projects. From concept to completion, your expertise will guide feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses. Your role is critical in aligning capital projects with the hospital's strategic objectives and ensuring a smooth implementation process. You will be responsible for planning and reporting on scope, timeline and costs of capital projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Staying informed about healthcare regulations is paramount. You will navigate and interpret local, provincial, and federal guidelines to ensure that all facilities and capital projects align with industry standards. Your attention to compliance will contribute to maintaining the highest quality and safety standards within the hospital.
  • Budget Management: A key aspect of your role involves managing budgets for facilities maintenance and capital projects. Through careful financial oversight, you will identify opportunities for cost savings while ensuring that projects are completed within established budget constraints.
  • Team Leadership: As a leader, you will oversee a dedicated team of facilities professionals. Your role is to foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment, ensuring that each team member contributes to the overall success of our facilities and capital initiatives. Make recommendations on hiring, promotion, improvement plans, annual performance reviews and terminations. Execute disciplinary action as necessary. Ensure adequate coverage for next shift and special duties. Liaison with other managers of any special occasions and special duties. Schedule and assist with new hires and monthly in-service training for shift personnel. Ensure that staff are aware of policy, process or procedure changes through communication, training, and mentorship. Continually monitor staff performance.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

  • Certified Trade Certificate or Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business, Architecture, or a related field
  • Project/Program Management Certification an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous related experience
  • Progressive leadership experience in complex capital planning and project execution in a health care/hospital environment or a similarly complex industry/sector
  • Experience in effective risk management and mitigation in healthcare construction projects
  • Working knowledge of construction documentation, and ability to coordinate plans between various trades and disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage operating and capital project budgets
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health Capital Investment Branch planning framework is considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple complex projects
  • Ability to use conflict resolution tools and techniques
  • Proven experience in facilities management and successful execution of capital projects, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare facility regulations, codes, standards, Ministry, and accreditation requirements
  • Exceptional negotiation and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of relevant financial and statistical reporting and systems
  • Ability to develop long range plans for an efficient and effective facility
  • Ability to actively participate in system-level planning and coordination
  • Ability to handle stress and multitask
  • Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position
