Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre Youth Program Lead- maternity one year contract
Reporting to the Executive Director- $27hr., 30 hrs a wk., 12pm to 6pm weekdays, benefits

Job Description
Support
· Set up of a welcoming, supportive learning environment including fitness and wellness
· Daily care and supervision of school age children, grades 4 to 8
· Responsible for youth lead program planning in accordance with ministry guidelines and High Five principles
· Supervise and support placement students and complete supervision and evaluation forms
· Participate in parent meetings as needed
· Manage all registration of students, payments and tax receipts
· Complete High Five evaluations for all programs quarterly
· Hire, train, supervise, review and maintain employee files for 2 before and after school and summer camp program staff
· Ensure monthly subsidy reports and any Halton Region/Ministry reports are completed
· Use search institutes 40 developmental assets as a foundation; support children in developing a positive identity, values, etc
Connect
· Regular communication with parents
· Mentor students and expand on their areas of interests
· Organize special events to encourage the interaction of children and families within the Centre and their community (ex: Halloween party)
· Maintaining a caring adult perspective and providing a safe space for communication
· Encouraging students to expand friendships and engage with their peers
· Participation in monthly staff meetings, events, professional development
· Liaise with Oakville Public Library and other agency partners for youth programs
Engage
· Participate in empathy projects (i.e. valentine's for seniors) to provide opportunities for children to engage in their community
· engage children as leaders in some activities, include them in program planning and have them share their interests, and traditions.
· Have community visitors, including family members lead activities
· Documentation displays on Youth Board and Social Media to reflect youth's work at program
· Community outings (i.e., visiting seniors' home) to promote engagement and development of life skills
· Involve the children in preparing snack to support their learning and independence
· Be a youth ambassador within the community at local schools and youth committees
· Staff role models in their discussions and actions diversity and inclusion practices
Additional Job Responsibilities
Promote the Centre as a place where People Belong, Families are Strong, Neighbours Share and Everyone Cares
Ensure a safe program area, remove safety hazards and report safety issues to Executive Director
Monitor spending for youth program budget
Statistical reporting: Monthly staff report, data entry of records, Submission for Annual Report
Qualifications
The successful candidates will love working with children, and being part of a team, be a self-starter, creative, organized, flexible, able to build relationships, and will demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills.
Completion of a relevant post secondary formal training program, such as Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Worker, Social Worker, Recreation, Community Work or Bachelor of Education and at least two years experience in the field.
Have a solid understanding of child development and educational needs.
Have the ability to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of programs and make recommendations for improvement.
High Five PHCD, Food Handler, Developmental assets and Physical Literacy education an asset
First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Health & Safety training, Police Check & vulnerable screen, and up to date immunizations required
