Job Summary

This position is required to work independently and must be able to function with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, judgement and efficiency with respect to the timely production and maintenance of financial records. In this role, the successful candidate will report to the Assistant Vice President, Accounting and will also assist with the development and implementation of best practices within the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Review entries and analyze monthly building operating statements for the Operations department
  • Analyze and record capital expenditure accruals quarterly to ensure accurate reporting on projects
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end audit working papers and leadsheets
  • Review and maintain monthly balance sheet account reporting, including liaising with various departments on status of transactions and balancing to the general ledger
  • Review and maintain commercial accounts including reconciliations and adherence to lease terms
  • Reconcile the accounts payable subledger to the general ledger on a quarterly basis
  • Review bad debt writeoffs
  • Preparation and review of semi-annual comparative building statements
  • Work with our Financial Analyst in the reporting of the quarterly status of capital expenditure projects with the various departments
  • Assist the legal department with review of various rent increases and processing various Orders from the Landlord Tenant Board for rent adjustments
  • Perform monthly lease audits
  • Review capital expenditure invoices, comparing to approved budgets
  • Review and help reconcile property tax accounts
  • Review a large volume of common supplier invoices weekly to ensure accuracy and adherence to proper controls.
  • Assist the Acquisition team with analysis and reporting related to building acquisitions
  • Perform a variety of ad hoc accounting duties, including balancing various accounts, and providing support to the financial accounting team as needed
  • Provide input to enhance service relationship, process efficiencies and identify potential compliance issues to the Assistant Vice President, Accounting and/or the Vice President Accounting & Controller
  • Participate in projects and initiatives as assigned

Requirements:

  • Minimum education requirement of a CPA designation
  • Five years or more experience in accounting an asset
  • Strong knowledge of multifaceted computer software applications Yardi and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment
