The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full-time Sales Manager, International in our Sales Department.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sales, the Sales Manager, International is responsible for identifying and securing international business event opportunities for the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC). This role plays a key part in driving the growth of CTCC's market share by cultivating strategic partnerships and pursuing global business opportunities. The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-driven professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys building strong relationships with local champions, industry leaders, and Tourism Calgary to enhance CTCC's visibility and secure international events for long-term success. Duties and Responsibilities- Lead business development efforts primarily within the international business events market, driving global events to Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC), and positioning the Centre as the premier venue for conventions, tradeshows, meetings, and corporate events in Calgary.
- Build and cultivate strong relationships with prospective clients, local champions, industry leaders, and key interest holders to expand CTCC's client base, ensuring the Centre is the preferred venue for international corporate and association events.
- Work closely with Tourism Calgary, local champions, and industry influencers to align sales strategies, amplify Calgary's presence as a top-tier event destination, and secure international events for CTCC. Foster long-term partnerships with these interest holders to increase the city's visibility and attract high-profile business events.
- Collaborate with the business development team based in the UK, sharing insights, strategies, and market intelligence to help identify and secure international business for CTCC. Work together to target key markets and expand global reach.
- Qualify leads and proactively prospect new business by conducting sales meetings in-person, via email, virtual (Teams or Zoom), and phone, ensuring a consistent pipeline of global events for CTCC and further strengthening its role in Calgary's growing event scene.
- Prepare comprehensive proposals, sales presentations, contracts, and invoices, ensuring thorough follow-up on leads, securing event bookings, and ensuring timely payment and contract finalization.
- Negotiate contracts with clients to secure the most beneficial opportunities for CTCC, ensuring that each event maximizes economic impact and aligns with both market conditions and the city's broader tourism and business objectives.
- Represent CTCC at trade shows, conventions, and industry events, hosting client site visits and familiarization tours, demonstrating the Centre's unique offerings and positioning Calgary as the ideal destination.
- Collaborate with key interest holders to develop bid books, presentations, and proposals for international bids, ensuring CTCC stands out as the prime location for major international events.
- Promote Calgary and CTCC through marketing, networking, and research, working with influential contacts to secure major international business events.
- Manage and enhance relationships with local, national, and international organizations, including academic and business communities, to attract international congresses and events to CTCC.
- Maintain accurate client and sales activity data in event management software, ensuring smooth transitions to the Event Management team for event execution.
- Analyze post-event feedback for continuous improvement, ensuring that CTCC maintains high standards of service and builds long-term relationships with clients.
- Stay informed on industry trends, economic conditions, and business protocols for operational sustainability and success.
- Assist in other markets as required, adapting sales strategies to meet specific business goals and expand CTCC's market share across various sectors.
- Travel as required to meet with clients, attend industry events, and promote CTCC and Calgary as a premier destination for international events.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience using CRM systems and event booking software; familiarity with Ungerboeck (Momentus) is a plus.
- Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and high quality in all tasks and deliverables.
- Preferably a post-secondary education in a related field, such as Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality, or Event Management.
- Relevant industry certifications or specialized training in sales, event planning, or business development is an asset.
- 8+ years of industry-related experience in a similar position, preferably within the convention, meetings, and events sector.
- Proven track record of relationship-based sales, including prospecting, proposal development, contract negotiation, and account management.
- Experience with the hospitality sales cycle is considered an asset, with a strong understanding of business development, relationship management, and contract negotiations.
- Experience collaborating on sales strategies, developing presentations, and presenting (virtually and in-person) to support organizational goals and efforts.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required to meet business needs and sales targets.
- Ability to travel internationally as needed, with a valid passport and flexibility to attend key industry events, client meetings, and trade shows.
- In-person/onsite work is required, with the expectation of regular travel for client engagement and business development activities.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
