akisqnuk First Nation is looking for a full-timeSenior Facilities Maintenance Worker to join our team. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing and executing a range of facility operations and preventative maintenance activities to ensure the safety, functionality, and appearance of AFNs buildings, grounds, rental homes, and assets. This position supports the long-term care and upkeep of all facilities and collaborates closely with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to maintain high standards in maintenance practices, safety compliance, and community service.

Note: This position is full-time with a set weekly schedule (35 hrs. / week, Monday - Friday). May be required to work hours outside of the standard workweek if an emergency occurs.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance on buildings, homes, equipment, and fleet vehicles.
  • Perform general repairs across carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, and basic electrical systems.
  • Maintain property areas (e.g., walkways, parking lots) to ensure safety and curb appeal.
  • Coordinate and support contractors on facility projects and repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness and appearance of all AFN facilities.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests and perform seasonal tasks.
  • Assist with facility logistics during community burial ceremonies.
  • Secure facilities after hours and support pest control measures.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance schedules and inspection records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Pre Red Seal or Red Seal is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of basic repair and maintenance practices across multiple trades (carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, electrical).
  • Strong attention to detail in all maintenance practices.
  • Experience operating and transporting skid steer, mini excavator, power tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety requirements, fire codes, and building standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, and operating equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license required plus clean drivers abstract.
  • Additional certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, Cargo Securement, Skid steer/Mini Ex certification) considered assets.
  • Respectful and discreet demeanor when supporting sensitive cultural or ceremonial activities.
  • Strong communication skills, specifically verbal and listening.
  • Customer service skills when working with Nation members.
  • Experience working with First Nations / Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Knowledge of language, history and culture of the Ktunaxa Nation is an asset.
  • NOTE: A criminal check and vulnerable sector search will be conducted on the successful applicant

  • Starting salary between $60,000 and $67,000 ($33 to $37/hour), depending on experience
  • Discretionary office closure between Christmas Day and New Years Day, as determined by the Council each year
