Job Description

Hardware Engineer – Edge AI & Smart PropTech Systems

Toronto, ON | Full-Time | On-Site with occasional field work

We're rethinking how buildings communicate, secure, and adapt — combining intelligent edge devices, AI-enabled platforms, and cloud-managed services. If you're a builder of systems, an innovator at heart, and a leader in hardware development, this role gives you the opportunity to shape the future of smart property technology.

About the Role

We're looking for a Hardware Engineer with a strong portfolio of successfully delivered projects — someone who has done the work, solved real problems, and is excited to lead the next generation of building automation systems.

You'll help architect and develop the embedded hardware that powers smart control panels, edge-connected sensors, secure entry systems, and IoT devices — all part of a larger enterprise solution deployed across residential and commercial properties.

You'll also manage both internal engineering teams and external contractors/manufacturers, ensuring the right people, parts, and designs come together to deliver scalable, reliable systems.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design, prototyping, and development of hardware products for intelligent building systems
  • Manage internal hardware resources and coordinate with external partners, vendors, and manufacturers
  • Translate product concepts into circuit designs, prototypes, and tested systems ready for production
  • Identify and recommend emerging technologies aligned with long-term innovation goals
  • Collaborate with cloud/software teams to ensure seamless system integration
  • Solve complex design and deployment issues with pragmatic, scalable solutions
  • Prepare documentation and technical specifications for both internal use and external clients
  • Occasionally support on-site assessments, client meetings, or launch events
  • Represent the hardware team in internal planning and cross-functional discussions

What You Bring

  • A history of successfully completed projects — hardware you've seen through from concept to rollout
  • Hands-on expertise in embedded microcontroller development (e.g. Microchip, ARM)
  • Strong analog and digital circuit design experience, including SIP-based audio/video systems, DSPs.
  • Experience in the design of touchscreen interfaces.
  • Practical experience with RF design, Bluetooth, RS-485, and network communications
  • Experience designing or integrating power supply systems and signal conditioning
  • Familiarity with development tools like Eagle, OrCAD, ADS, or similar platforms
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset — you take ownership, lead decisively, and adapt quickly
  • Ability to manage project timelines, delegate tasks, and oversee external contributors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understanding of SR&ED claims and innovation funding strategies
  • Understanding of designing to and applying for FCC/ULC Standards
  • A valid driver's license

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to smart home or building automation products
  • Familiarity with SIP, VoIP, TCP/IP, or HTTP-based communications
  • Experience with Linux or embedded OS environments
  • Background in acoustic/audio technologies (e.g. microphone beamforming, waveform shaping)
  • Security background knowledge of secure standards such as MiFare/NFC and Bluetooth mobile credentials

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a growing company at the cutting edge of smart PropTech and Edge AI
  • Take ownership of projects that directly impact how buildings operate and serve people
  • Work with a team that values innovation, curiosity, and real-world impact
  • Gain visibility and influence over product strategy and technical direction

Applicants must currently reside in or around the GTA Toronto area.

Due to application volume, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome diversity in our team. Accommodations are available upon request.
