Job Summary

We are seeking a Data &Foresight Analyst to join our Economic Intelligence team. This role contributes to CEDs strategic foresight capabilities by collecting data, conducting sector-based and horizon research, and supporting the design and implementation of foresight tools and engagements. The Analyst will work closely with the Foresight Manager and cross-functional teams to help CED anticipate and respond to emerging trends and disruptive changes, ensuring long-term sustainability and leadership in the future economy.

This is a full-time permanent position with a minimum in-office requirement of 3 times a week. It is a 1 year contract with the possibility of extension for an additional year.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Foresight & Analysis

  • Monitor global trends and signals to identify risks and opportunities impacting Calgarys key sectors.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to inform foresight artifacts such as scenarios, trend reports, and strategy recommendations.
  • Support development and delivery of foresight-based tools and processes, including horizon scans, scenario planning, and sector strategies.

Data Science & Modeling

  • Design and maintain data models and dashboards using cloud-based technologies (e.g., Google BigQuery).
  • Integrate diverse datasets and build pipelines to enable advanced analytics.
  • Develop data visualization outputs using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.

Project & Partner Engagement

  • Assist in the planning and execution of foresight workshops and educational sessions.
  • Engage internal teams and external partners to co-create insights and support business development.
  • Translate complex data and foresight concepts into clear, accessible reports and presentations.

Education:

  • Degree or certificate in Strategic Foresight, Futures Studies, Economics, Business, or Data Science.
  • Proficiency in SQL and/or Python (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy).
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) or equivalent cloud-based data tools.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in foresight, research, data analysis, or related field (5+ years preferred).
  • Experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex ideas into actionable insights.
  • Expertise in design thinking, systems thinking, or creative strategy.
  • Experience with API integration, data pipelines, and UX/UI design.
  • Background in product development, innovation, or visual communication design.
