Job Title: Mechanical Estimator
Location: Markham, ON
Base Salary: $80,000 $130,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
Position Overview:
Our client, a leading player in Ontarios mechanical and electrical construction space, is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join their growing team on a full-time, permanent basis. With a robust pipeline of transit, infrastructure, and industrial projects, this is a great opportunity for a driven estimator to step into a role with significant impact and long-term potential.
This position is ideal for someone looking to bring stability, experience, and initiative to a busy and fast-paced environment. You'll work out of their Markham office, reporting directly to the VP of Projects and Estimating, and benefit from training support from an experienced senior contractor.
The Opportunity:
As the Mechanical Estimator, youll be responsible for preparing accurate estimates and budgets for large-scale mechanical construction projectsincluding both new builds and retrofits. Youll have ownership over the full estimating process, from scope development and pre-construction planning to subcontractor negotiation and bid submission. This role calls for a confident self-starter whos equally comfortable working independently and cross-functionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for hard bids, design/build, and maintenance projects
- Evaluate scope, scheduling, and associated risks in pre-construction planning
- Review tender documentation, drawings, and project specs to ensure submission accuracy
- Request, assess, and recommend sub-trade quotes that align with project goals
- Communicate with owners, engineers, and internal teams to ensure seamless bid-to-build transitions
- Participate in project execution planning and develop procurement strategies
- Attend pre-bid meetings and manage incoming/outgoing bid requests
- Provide ongoing support to Project Managers during project execution
- Assist with forecasting, benchmarking, and value analysis initiatives
- Maintain accurate and timely submissions of all bid-related documents
Job Qualifications:
- 47 years of Mechanical Estimating experience is required
- Prior work in the construction industry - especially infrastructure or transit -is essential
- Strong proficiency in reading/interpreting mechanical and architectural drawings
- Conceptual estimating experience is a strong asset
- Familiarity with BlueBean, Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office is an advantage
- Previous exposure to project management is a plus
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented with strong time management skills
